    Chapter 1 - Before Traveling

(1:17) I had been on a clear path towards having it all, but deep down inside, I felt something very important was missing. I had spent almost two years studying at the top university of business and economics in Sweden, after a long and successful secondary schooling. Studying had been like a passion for me. I liked school and although I was engaged in several free-time activities, I had prioritized studying above everything throughout high school. At a peak point, my soccer coach had even called me at home for a discussion about having to show up at practice despite exam times, to be able to join the weekend match selection. ——— Pre-order at: https://mesenaatti.me/1233/5-years-in-colombia/

(1:17) ”Let’s take this way instead” Gerardo said suddenly and firmly. Something was looming further down again. I told Patrick to follow silently. His Spanish skills were limited and he hadn’t seen the danger that was waiting ahead. We had crossed the outskirts of the neighborhood where we were walking along a river. When we arrived to the other side, Gerardo revealed that a group of gang members were standing and watching us further down the road that we had been on. We could still see them from the other side of the river. Luckily, there was no direct passage from where they were. I don’t know if it was calming or worrying to know that Gerardo had spotted them. The knowledge that violent youngsters without anything resembling a life plan were looming here and there was definitely not calming, but Gerardo’s presence was definitely reassuring. We got hold of a taxi and could get out of Aguablanca after another successful day. ——— Pre-order at: https://mesenaatti.me/1233/5-years-in-colombia/
