    Symptoms of Cyberspace

    Symptoms of Cyberspace

LETTERS AGAINST ISOLATION Episode 7: “Symptoms of Cyberspace” with Fleming Mason interviewed by Constance Leterre.

    Artist Statement:

Fleming Mason is a London-based interdisciplinary artist whose work predominantly covers sculpture, sound, installation, and conceptual practices. His current studies are engaged with what he titles Inverse Anthropologies; that is, the attempt to look outside the subject, towards that which creates them (pertaining that bodies produce their environments as environments produce them). Inverse Anthropologies reflects this effort to understand human behaviour from a perspective where the body is latent; the attempt to approach the entity from the outside in. Recent works include sculptural investigations into what he calls Deep Time - the prehistoric and “hyper-futures”. By learning from or “placing oneself into” these different forms of time, we might be able to more accurately understand the present. He is currently developing a new series of works for his first solo exhibition, represented by The Who Gallery.

Material and immaterial fluids in the cyber-meta-real-human-substance

Material and immaterial fluids in the cyber-meta-real-human-substance

LETTERS AGAINST ISOLATION Episode 6: “Material and immaterial fluids in the cyber-meta-real-human-substance” with Jade Baldo interviewed by Constance Leterre.

    Artist Statement:

The pseudo-dis-trans-post-hyper-cyber real true human substance of beauty? The now? To define and materialise possibilities for the existence of this substance. Revolving around new media, performance and installation to fall back unavoidably into image making and documentation to narrow down and concrete what might be entailed by my practice. A fascination with the intangible laced by an overcomplicated amalgamation of incomprehension. To remain complicated as a way to represent my interaction with the contemporary world and self. To drown in an inexistent sea of this shapeshifting matter.

    On Holes

    On Holes

LETTERS AGAINST ISOLATION Episode 5: “On Holes” with Hugo Hagger interviewed by Constance Leterre.

    Artist Statement:

"To be more holy one needs to get comfortable with the idea of destruction. But the kind of destruction I’m talking about is the sharp clean, trenchant kind of destruction, a kind of burnt-sage, bad-energies, Marykondo-co-star-cosmic-fascism, if it doesn’t bring you joy, kill it, cut its throat with a thin blade, violently agitate and rearrange all its matter until it becomes gaseous, like a red mist and then inhale it and become effigy to the brutal sacrifice you have both made. Ash; thats my T.H.E.O.R.Y.”.

The artists and their double: Practice and crisis within the art scene

The artists and their double: Practice and crisis within the art scene

Letters Against Isolation Episode 4: “The artists and their double: Practice and crisis within the art scene” with India Wilson interviewed by Constance Leterre

"Having been consistently been surrounded by theatre and people who were extremely passionate about TV and film also, the direction my art practice is taking currently is intrinsically linked to understanding peoples psyche and the body, and also where the two intersect. Incorporating cinematic or temporal styles to my process of making, I do so within the mediums of sculpture, painting, photography and video. These styles stem from my love of certain concepts and genres: affect, body politics, sci-fi and fantasy, horror (gore, the abject and psychological), eroticism, dark humour, and the absurd.

I hope to come in and out of the realms of fine art, theatre, TV, film, and socially engaging work, and still apply the process personal to me. I love to engage with the texture of people and place, dissect or displace the details I pick out, often using a playful or experimental attitude. The application to different industries is all aligned in my want to pursue a career in art direction, and whatever form that may take."
