Episode 22: The Retreat by Sarah Pearse

Episode 22: The Retreat by Sarah Pearse

I really enjoyed Sarah Pearse's debut novel, The Sanitorium. Though I was not happy with the "why," I was left intrigued by its ending and was very much looking forward to her second novel, The Retreat.  If you're looking for that ending to resolve itself in this book, you will be disappointed. If you're looking for a fast-paced "who dunnit," you might be OK. It was a 3-star from me. Good, but by no means great. In contrast, I gave The Sanitorium a 4-star.

Episode 21: Wish You Were Here by Jodie Picoult

If you had COVID and it caused you to shift your very being and perspective on life and the way in which your mind functions, this one is for you. But be warned, this may be much too soon for most of humanity.  It hit my soul and is 5 stars from me.

Episode 20: How To Stop Time by Matt Haig

Episode 20: How To Stop Time by Matt Haig

If you love the concept of eternal life (or close to it), this might be your cup of tea, but if you need to know the what and why behind the plot, then I say PASS.

I'm disappointed that this fell so short that not only is it a NO from me, but it's a hard NO at 2 stars.

Episode 19: Middlemarch by George Eliot

Episode 19: Middlemarch by George Eliot

If you love turn of the 19th century, English literature that delves into the lives of a quintessential English countryside villagers and their stance on women, politics, friendship, marriage, jealousy, love, and just about everything in between -- well, this is the novel for you. Oh and you need to have a thing for 800+ pages of it.

This was not my usual go to book, but I have to say, it turned out to be a YES from me!
