What I Want for You
How should parents pray for their kids? Far too often, Christian parents communicate an unspoken list of expectations for their children that isn't much different than a list you'd hear from a non-Christian (except maybe with some sin-management no-no's thrown in). In this exploration of Paul's prayer in the opening of Philippians, Bruce helps us see that the life we should point our kids to is so much more - more difficult, more dangerous, more joyful, and more like Jesus. Ultimately, this is the life that really matters. So how can we help our kids get there? Pray, pray, pray.

Good News for the Bored
What's wrong with being bored? A lot, actually. Boredom can be a symptom of a disoriented heart. Many addictions begin with boredom. The end of many marriages begins with boredom. Lots of other struggles and sins are downstream of a persistent, pervasive posture of boredom. Here's the good news: we serve a God who not only saves us through Jesus, but through Jesus, by the Spirit, empowers us for mission. In Luke 9:1-9, we see a preview of this, and we'll also reflect on five ways the mission of Jesus can dispel boredom from your life and point the way to a fresh, challenging, mission-focused life. That is really good news for the bored.

When You Don't Want To Listen To Jesus
If you spend much time getting to know the teachings of Jesus, you will find there are times he asks you to do things you don't want to do. Like a fork in the road, you'll have to ask: will I listen to Jesus or not? Luke 8:16-21 is intended to prepare us to listen to Jesus and obey. We'll note four different questions we can ask ourselves to help us make the right decision at the fork in the road, and thereby experience the joy in Jesus for those who hear his voice and obey.
