Are doctors morally obliged to disclose cancer diagnosis to their patients? What does care mean for cancer patients and what would it look like? These are questions that the rights-versus-culture debate grapple with: on one hand, withholding information could cause unwelcome distress especially in certain cultural contexts, but on the other, to do so may also be interpreted as paternalism. Are patients entitled to full disclosures? What has the rights-versus-culture debate gotten wrong?
