Making Sense of the Gentrification Process in Philadelphia

Making Sense of the Gentrification Process in Philadelphia

Welcome to Making Sense with Tanjeen. I’m your host Tanjeen Twinkle. This is a podcast about making sense with the world around us, asking questions about things that are not being addressed and finding solutions to problems.

I have noticed that gentrification is a long-time issue in Philadelphia, which is affecting families by taking their homes away and them being displaced because of it.

To talk about this on-going problem, today on the phone, I’m here with Nora Lichtash. She is the Director of the nonprofit organization Women’s Community Revitalization Project. She also helps staff the Philadelphia Coalition for Affordable Communities. Both organizations advocate for fair and healthy community development and affordable housing. I will discuss with Nora, who are the families being affected by gentrification and what policies are currently there created to help fight this issue.

Making Sense of the Juvenile Justice System

Welcome to the first episode of Making Sense with Tanjeen! Today on the show, I had a conversation with Katy Otto, the Director of Communication of The Juvenile Law Center. The Juvenile Law Center is a non-profit organization located in Philadelphia. It’s a public interest law firm for children in the child welfare and justice systems. In this episode, we discussed how youth are being affected by today's justice system.  Also, about existing policies and those being created to help children.
