Q&A on ADHD kids and chores

Q&A on ADHD kids and chores

A mom’s frustrated that her 12 year old has difficulty attending to her chores. Until 2:30 is Jamie reading the mom’s question, followed by Jamie’s response as both a mom and an adult who remembers being a kid in a similar situation. Summary (each thing is expanded on in the episode): 1) remove the word “get” from your vocabulary 2) reframe it from kiddo doing anything personal to you to her having her own struggle 3) Jamie explains how activation and regulation work with ADHD in relation to chores, giving examples from her life 4) People with ADHD do not learn by watching. We learn by doing and having ownership. Resources: TED Talk Failing at Normal: An ADHD Success Story. YouTube channel How to ADHD. Books: How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk, How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap, ADHD According to Zoe.
