Hi. I’m Brandon. And I’m David. We’re the hosts of “Late to the Party,” a podcast where we investigate and breakdown the “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die,” the 2016 edition edited by Robert Dimery. Why listen? Well, we are high school English teachers which means we’re experts at making nothing sound like absolutely everything. Every week we will listen to an album from the list and break down why it’s worth a listen, purchase, or pass.

Challenge Episode - The National & MF Doom
They’re back! It's been a minute, but Bravid finally made it through the school year and are fully vaxxed. That means they are back in the studio to avoid any more ZOOM burnout. Brandon and David each issued a challenge album for the other to listen to that they, for whatever reason, would not necessarily listen to in their own musical journies. David slaps Brandon with the gauntlet of MF Doom's lyrical genius and genre-responsive Mm...Food while Brandon puts a message of The National's Trouble Will Find Me in a bottle and tosses it into the ocean of David's stubbornness. That all makes sense right? Hear David fail to be articulate at any given moment and Bradon at his most professorial, shaming David with his brilliance.

Anyway, we love those that called in, truly, and appreciate the dedication of our listenership from around the world. This podcast has been a boon to our 2020 and we look forward to discussing the remaining 990 albums with you in future episodes.

What is post-emo? or evolutionary hipsterdom? Bravid praises this melancholic debut album from the brightest thing to come out of Canada since the lightbulb (look it up). This group sure does punch above its weight: arena shows, network specials, touring with Bowie, Album of the Year recipients. Operatic sounds with coming-of-age themes make this a quintessential album for the 21st century. Hear Brandon gush like Bono over "Wake Up" and "see" David dig through his music archives and fawn over the product design of the CD version-- remember those?
