Wild About Basking Sharks with Chelsea Gray - S2 E11 Wild About Conservation
-
- Science
Hello and welcome back to the Wild About conservation Podcast. Join us this episode as we chat to Chelsea Gray, an Environmental Science and Policy PhD student at George Mason University. Her research focuses on using Individual Based Models for Basking Shark Behaviour and using those to inform relevant policy. Chelsea is an excellent communicator who explains what individual based models are, how policy is created, and how scientists like herself may better be able to inform policy using their research. This episode isn’t just about the models but all about basking sharks too. One key takeaway is that citizen science projects that capture species presence data are invaluable - if you spot a basking shark in Atlantic waters, you can report it here.
CW: We discuss 'historic population control' of basking sharks with some graphic language 34:00 - 36:00
