The Creator Of The First Independent Film Accepted Into The Cannes Film Festival Susan Seidelman

The Creator Of The First Independent Film Accepted Into The Cannes Film Festival Susan Seidelman

Trailblazing movie director Susan Seidelman, shares a funny and insightful first-person story of her life from her Twiggy-obsessed girlhood to the Madonna-mania of the 80's and beyond in her memoir, DESPERATELY SEEKING SOMETHING: A Memoir About Movies, Mothers, and Material Girls (St. Martin's Press, June 18, $30.00). Her genre-blending films reflect a passion for classic Hollywood storytelling, mixed with a playful New Wave spirit, informed by her years living in downtown NYC. Starting out in the mid-70s, a time when few women were directing movies, Susan was determined to become a filmmaker. She longed to tell stories about the unrepresented characters she wanted to see on screen: unconventional women in unusual circumstances, needing to express themselves and maintain their autonomy. Her fearless punk drama, Smithereens became the first American indie film to compete at Cannes, and smash hit Desperately Seeking Susan led to a four-decade career in film. Seidelman continued to shape American pop culture well into the nineties, directing the pilot of the iconic TV series Sex And The City, focusing her sharp lens on the changing place of women in American society and helping to fundamentally reshape our self-image in ways that are still felt today.

Dystopica's Becky Brideau Unveils Their New Full Album Infinate Reflection

Dystopica's Becky Brideau Unveils Their New Full Album Infinate Reflection

Heavy, aggressive, and melodic, Dystopica’s first full-length album, Infinite Reflection, elevates their sound to a whole new level. It combines the strength of heavy metal, the driving force of thrash metal, and the complexity of progressive metal in a way that is unique and catchy. With harmonized guitar riffs, epic guitar solos, vigorous drumming, and powerful female vocals, the band stays true to their core sound while further expanding upon it.

Infinite Reflection is about reflecting on the past, taking hold of the present, and redefining the future. Produced by Nick Bellmore (Dee Snider, Corpsegrinder, Ripper, Hatebreed, Toxic Holocaust, Many Eyes), it is much heavier and more progressive than Dystopica’s 2021 Perception and 2022 Deception. Each song is very distinct from one another, but together they tell a story of evolving through time that parallels the evolution of Dystopica’s sound.

Hailing from Connecticut, Dystopica is a metal band with a distinct sound blending heavy metal, hard rock, thrash metal and progressive metal.  Their music includes melodic, harmonizing guitar riffs and powerful female vocals.  The band's lineup is Becky Brideau on vocals, Rob Muller on guitar and Erich Bender on drums.  Joining Dystopica for live shows is Lucas Dellaporta on bass and Connor Sperry on guitar.  The band was formed by singer and songwriter Becky Brideau.

Award Winning Veterinarian Dr Amy Attas Releases The Book Pets And The City

Award Winning Veterinarian Dr Amy Attas Releases The Book Pets And The City

Dr. Amy Attas shares all the shocking, heartbreaking, and life-affirming experiences she's faced throughout her thirty-year career treating the cats and dogs of New Yorkers from Park Avenue to the projects. An award-winning veterinarian, she started City Pets Vets, an exclusively house-call veterinary practice, over three decades ago. Since then, she's worked with over 7,000 Manhattan families and cared for more than 14,000 of their dogs and cats in the comfort of their own homes. Some of her stories are about A list stars, like the time she saw a famous singer naked (no, her rash was not the same as her puppy's). Others are about remarkable animals, like the skilled service dog who, after his exam was finished, left the room and returned with a checkbook in his mouth. Every tale in this rollicking, informative, and fun memoir affirms a key truth about animal, and human, nature: Our pets love us because their hearts are pure; we love them because they're freaking adorable. On some level, we know that by caring for them, we are the best version of ourselves. In short: Our pets make us better people. When a pet is sick, people-even the rich and famous-are at their most authentic and vulnerable. They could have a Monet on the wall and an Oscar on the shelf, but if their cat gets a cold, all they want to talk about are snotty noses and sneezing fits.

The Author Of Why Is Sam So Sad Dan Granger Speaks Openly About Seasonal Affective Disorder

The Author Of Why Is Sam So Sad Dan Granger Speaks Openly About Seasonal Affective Disorder

Why Is Sam So Sad? Seasonal Affective disorder and Depression from a Child’s Perspective (Christian Faith Publishing), is about a boy named Sam, who suffers from SAD. Sam tells the reader all about what he experiences and feels. He goes on to explain what causes sadness within and how the weather plays into how he behaves during this time of year. He tells the readers how he treats his friends and family and even his dog during this SAD time of the year. Sam expounds what the letters S.A.D stand for in Seasonal Affective Disorder. He discusses the remedies he uses to combat SAD. Some include taking vitamins, staring at a special light, and the burdensome task of remembering something good that happened during these SAD days. Sam ends the book reminding the reader to practice gratitude. Because Sam feels you can’t be angry and grateful at the same time.  “I wrote this book as a springboard for parents and teachers to understand depression from a child's point of view,” says author Dan Granger. “My hope is that my book inspires parents and teachers to talk to children about depression. In my opinion, I don’t feel depression is talked about early enough. What if by talking to the children we could curtail some effects of teen years caused by feeling hopeless, alone, and never understood? My hope is that by talking to the kids early about depression when the teen years come and depression is more common, the teen will be ready for it.”
