1 Peter 3:15 urges Christians to revere Christ and explain their hope with gentleness, forming the basis of apologetics. Despite this, many avoid it due to fear of doubt, the belief in faith alone, or the perception of complexity. However, apologetics is essential for all believers to fulfill this scriptural command and effectively share the gospel, breaking down barriers to faith.

In this series, What We Believe and Why, my assignment is to prepare you to give such answers. If we truly love those who are still unsaved, we must be willing to study the field of apologetics so that with God’s help we can break barriers that are hindering people from getting saved.

This is a messianic Psalm which discloses the heart of God toward His own Son. This conversation introduces an amazing declaration that all the nations of the world are intended to come under the protection of His Son’s rule. However, the qualifier is, ask. Jesus came to inherit the nations, not some, all. He came to possess the ends of the earth. To infiltrate power centres through His influence. To establish the Kingdom of heaven on this earth. To show that God has a personal interest in the in all the people groups of the earth.

Jesus made it very clear that part of His mission was to equip His disciples so that His message, the message of the Gospel would spread into the world.

People will reward and relate to you based on your reputation. Think of how you choose to work in certain companies or deal with specific people because of their reputation. Sadly, something has crept into Christians where we have emphasised so much how other’s opinions don’t matter, only God’s. As a result we have developed a misbelief that “What other people think of me and how they see me doesn’t matter.” So what’s the balance between how I know I am in my heart and what others see? A good way to look at it is like this: Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. Abraham Lincoln. Many people in pride think they can do anything, and the consequences will disappear. They tell their minions, “Make it go away!” but sadly, some things won’t. So, let’s explore what the Bible actually says about our reputations.

In his book, The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism", Tim Keller states, "If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said; if he didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead."

In this sermon we will focus on a well-known passage of scripture, and I will start with the end of the passage which is one of my favourite verses.

When I say to you ‘the fear of God’ it probably conjures up a wide variety of thoughts and emotions in different people. Possibly even questions around God. Today I would like to do a dive into this important uncommon virtue which is the fear of the Lord. I am going to unpack what it is not and explain what it is and of course, why it is so important for us as believers. I will also look at how we can grow in the fear of the Lord.
