GUEST BIO: Steven Beller was born in London, England and educated at Cambridge University; since 1989 he has lived in the USA. He has written widely on Austrian, Jewish and Central European history. His books include A Concise History of Austria (Cambridge, 2006), Vienna and the Jews, 1867-1938: A Cultural History (Cambridge University Press, 1989); Herzl (Halban, 1991); Francis Joseph (Longman, 1996); ; Antisemitism: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2008, 2015); Democracy: All That Matters (Hodder, 2013). He also edited and introduced the anthology Rethinking Vienna 1900 (Berghahn, 2001). His latest book is The Habsburg Monarchy 1815-1918 (Cambridge, 2018). He is currently an independent scholar resident in Washington DC. -

Awesome show
As a not easily offended South African person the only thing I like more than Jim taking the poss out of the South African accent is Jim making fun of New Zealand.
Came across the podcast last year and have just finished listening to all the episodes. I have been obsessed. It was fun listening to them in reverse (first to last) and listening along to the show devolve. Great show guys. Keep it up!

We could do 88 litres a year!
Hi Guys so after listening to the prohibition episode I also thought 88 litres sounds like a stupid amount! But its not...
88 litres= 1,69 litres a week..
Now normally as a South African you possibly could go drinking 3 times a week.. Wednesday, Friday & Saturday.
A bottle of Brandy or Whiskey is 750ml on Avg you will finish half a bottle and probably won’t be tipsy yet. That means at least you drinking a bottle and a half a week not taking into consideration some sneaky after work drinks or the occasional proper piss up..
Come on Jim as a Ausie I rate you smashed at your peak at least 90 litres!
Anyway Jack looks like Dave Grohl if Dave Grohl had the Benjamin Button disease.
