Epidemics and Pandemics of Detroit in World War I
Adam and Chris investigate different epidemics and pandemics in Detroit in the 1910s. Topics include: whooping cough and typhoid in 1913 and 1914, the founding of Grosse Pointe Country Day School amidst a quarantine in Detroit, the unexpected prevalence of smallpox in Detroit, Detroit's water quality, the scarlet fever epidemic of 1917, housing codes, the influenza epidemic of 1918 (sometimes called Spanish Flu), and Dr. James Inches. How can the stories of Detroit's experiences with epidemics 100 years ago give us hope for the future during the current coronavirus pandemic?
