Avoid clergy abuse during 16 Days of Activism and beyond

Avoid clergy abuse during 16 Days of Activism and beyond

Sandy Phillips Kirkham is a survivor of clergy abuse. He was 30 married, with two children, and at the age of 16, her youth pastor. The abuse lasted for five years. For 27 years she remained silent living with guilt and shame. A trigger forced her to face her past. That is when the healing began. Part of that healing meant facing her abuser after 27 years. Hiring a private detective she found him still ministering in a church in Alabama.
Her journey was not an easy one but she is now a survivor and an advocate for other victims. She shares a message of prevention by helping people to understand the mind of a predator and the tools used to groom, manipulate and gaslight their victims and provides a greater understanding of the dynamics of abuse and the damage done when one suffers at the hands of a so-called clergy. She serves on the board Of The Council on Child Abuse, is the interdenominational spokesperson for The Hope of Survivor's ministry, and is a sought-after speaker and podcast guest.
She resides in Cincinnati with her husband of 43 years and their two dogs. Sandy is a proud mother and grandmother

Combat Domestic Violence in Southeast Asia during 16 Days of Activism and Beyond

Combat Domestic Violence in Southeast Asia during 16 Days of Activism and Beyond

Born in Bangladesh and married at the age of 28. Elita Karim was hit by her husband on their honeymoon, a pattern that repeated itself throughout their two-year marriage.
She found the strength to leave her abusive relationship and has gone on to support other women who are suffering at the hands of violent husbands. She believes that raising awareness of domestic violence is the first step towards ending a societal problem that affects millions of women and girls worldwide.
After divorcing her husband, she went on to earn an MBA at a university in the UK. and now lives in Singapore and works in finance as a Management consultant.

Elita has recently done a TEDxTalk on "How to Combat Domestic Violence in Southeast Asia".

What helped Elita in the process of leaving her abusive husband was (i) opening up about her situation with family and friends (ii) asking for support when she needed and (iii) creating a vision of the 'better life that she believed she was worthy of.
In the years following her divorce, she worked deeply on her personal transformation and took up practices of forgiveness, gratefulness & dream building- all of which led her to the beautiful life that she is now living.
