Orange Juice Optional is a podcast that celebrates both the crazy and serious sides of everyday life. Through the eyes and comfort of a 15-year friendship, and with over 100 years of stories and experiences between them, co-hosts Suzanne and Michelle tackle the ups and downs of their unpredictable empty nest lives. Their stories are relatable, funny and the best part is, they are all absolutely true! While they thought life would get easier after the kids were grown, they’ve since adapted the motto that ‘we couldn’t make this up if we tried’.

Now, pop that cork, pour that glass of champagne, and celebrate along with us. Also, remember that no matter the time of day, Orange Juice is optional. This is a judgement free zone, because why would you dilute what is best in life.

Lets’s discuss the elegant “Swans” and Truman Capote

Lets’s discuss the elegant “Swans” and Truman Capote

    Episode Notes
In this week's episode of Orange Juice Optional, Suzanne and Michelle will explore Laurence Leamer's book "Capote's Women: A true story of love, betrayal, and a swan song for the ages." This non-fiction narrative delves into Truman Capote's intricate relationships with his high-profile female friends (who he refers to as ‘his swans’). This captivating book introduces each woman, and not only sheds light on her larger than life public persona, but also her intentionally concealed private life struggles.  Struggles that their confidant, Capote, then exposed in the 1975 Esquire article ‘La Cōte Basque 1965’.  While the true identities of the characters in this article were loosely concealed, high society and the swans understood the comparisons to real life situations.  Capote created a messy situation for himself and the swans.  Listen in today, as Suzanne and Michelle discuss this situation, and share their thoughts on this unforgettable book, Capote and his beautiful unexpecting swans.

Then before wrapping up this week’s episode, Suzanne announces that May’s book of the month is “Mostly what God does” by Savannah Guthrie. We will learn more about this book…next week. So, until then….cheers!
