There was a time when writers were stars and treated as such. They held rocknroll status like Kanye West and when they said something, even if it was silent it was an event. Sontag made thinking sexy. Charismatic, controversial, flawed and complex; so much about what she saw and how she saw it was emblematic of the twentieth century. Sontag is my personal hero, the kind that you hold on a pedestal from afar, the kind of idol you would be scared to meet in person!

Chantal Akerman's opus film "Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles" altered in real time the mundane and exposed what lies hidden under the cracks. The slow unraveling is tragic and meditative.

Known as the wife of...Ulysses, her name is synonmous with marital fidelity. But she was so much more and it was so surprisingly progressive for a white, blind man to have written a story dating back to antiquity about a woman that could rule a country on her own, outwit all of her suitors and be a single mom. In essence, this woman was a badass.

This is the beginning episode of my audio performance. I chose to start with Duras as her very being was about the act of writing...storytelling. Her language is personal and equally universal. This is the mark of a genius. A true hero.
