The Corona Virus & The Education System

The Corona Virus & The Education System

(I made it suitable for deaf people, you can read the content here as well)

Hi you guys, this is Danielle and welcome my podcast!

a brief introduction, I'm 26 years old I live in Israel in Rishon Lezion and I'm a first-year student in Talpiot college in the English department.

Today I would like to talk about a subject that is almost inevitable to talk about these days and of course, I'm talking about the Corona Virus and its consequences on the education system.

So first, a little background about the virus, its medical name is Covid-19, co means corona. vi means virus and 19 is 2019.

and as you all know by now, it is a very infectious disease and its common symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

although it sounds like a regular flu it is much more deadly than we think and that's why infected people have to be put into quarantine.

as far as we know now, the virus is mainly spread during close contact especially when people sneeze or cough, and also by touching surfaces that came in touch with the virus.

and I would like to mention an important thing that dogs and cats are not contagious and can not be infected so don't worry about that!  you can still hug your pets freely.

ever since Corona got into our life a lot of things have changed, for example: you need to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, wearing gloves, masks and so on...  but besides the high awareness of good hygiene, the corona effect has reached to every system in the government, including education.

The education system is facing a lot of struggles due to this new situation, schools are being canceled and there is no deadline yet when we can go back to school, teachers need to teach online their students and it is harder than it sounds.

first of all, there is a limitation of capacity to the education system's website and servers and the students and the teachers facing a lot of technical problems, second not every family in Israel has enough computers (or at all) to every child, third, not every kid ( especially the young ones) has the self-discipline to watch and listen to an online class, and the teachers are expected to overcome somehow all those difficulties and to make every class proper for teaching online.

not to mention, that a lot of workplaces  are not working so many people are at home using the internet which causes a huge problem on the communications companies, and because I work at Bezeq International I know how much it affects the whole country so it should be known that not every student and teacher will have a good bandwidth to participate in an online class.

so according to the news so far, the education system is considering to take a few days from the summer vacation to complete the lost time, and also a few of the material for the bagrut exams is being drop.. and so far these are the solutions that were suggested that we know of.

so, to sum up, the education system will continue facing those struggles until things will start getting better and for that each one of us will have to make an effort and contribute his part for this fight so we can all go back to normal as fast as possible.

I hope for the best for all the teachers out there and be strong and be a rule moodle for the kids.

thank for listening to me, hope you had a good time and maybe even learned something new. bye bye
