Expressions in Indigenous art, through the life of Norval Morrisseau

Expressions in Indigenous art, through the life of Norval Morrisseau

In this episode of the #WOKESETTLERS podcast opens the mind to see the power, and meaning behind art. Indigenous cultures use many traditional ways of healing, one of which is the arts. Norval Morrisseau is an Indigenous artist from Ontario, he was a residential school survivor as well as a recovered alcoholic. Norval found his strength, connection, culture, and pride in his art. This episode goes into the horrible incident where people stripped Morrisseau of his identity just like residential school did. After finding his connection back to his culture through his art, many fraud paintings of his were made and sold. Metaphorically and quite literally, Canada has taken Norval Morrisseau’s culture once again. Listen as we dive further into the story of Norval Morrisseau and his expressions through Indigenous art.
