This inaugural video podcast features Mexican-American sisters Maricela Alcala and Nicole Angel.  They touch on their personal stories and struggles of coming back to America as adults. Through their journey, they have dedicated their life's work in the non-profit worlds, which at times has mirrored some of their personal life.  Nicole works at a nonprofit that helps victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence called . Maricela is CEO of Gryphon Place | 211 in Kalamazoo, MI a nonprofit that is known for providing services across nearly all of Michigan for crisis support and suicide prevention.  www.gryphonplace.com
Together with a group of other ladies, including the Women Unleashed host Stephanie Gillespie Schrock, they have developed a program in Southwest Michigan targeting other Latina leaders across the region to go through a six-month leadership development and training.  They are currently seeking applicants to the 2019 program, and applications are due by March 24th, 2019. Women Unleashed is born from the idea that to be at our best, we need to feel connected, and we need to learn from each other. Through our words — written, spoken, and recorded — we want to learn about each other’s unique paths: what events and people inspire and influence us.
We aspire to leave a legacy of mentorship by empowering women through our interview format to ask the people who have in some way shaped each of us, the kinds questions that provoke and lead to understanding what events and occurrences in other’s life journeys have made them into the people who have impacted us.
