Loving the podcast
Took me a long time to review but have been loving the new podcast which I have found more consistently entertaining than the Roman series even if it does lack the dizzying highs of Caligula and his dinner parties, Trajan hero diving out of a window to dodge an earthquake, commodus’s David Attenborough meets target practice shenanigans in the coliseum and of course goldflake and innocence. I think you were both too hard on Polk though, sickly child come dark horse winner of the democratic convention who then achieves four seemingly impossible policy goals within one term and then stepping down like Cincinnatus (high five) and Washington deserves more respect I think. I also thought Van Buren got a rough deal, but that might just show my preference for adept political operators over their rather boring yet decidedly more upstanding presidential icons. Can’t wait for some special episodes on Tecumseh, Ben Franklin and that perennial loser Henry Clay, but what i really want is a series of crossover episodes where the best of both the Presidents and the emperors face off across the vast gulf of history between them to answer once and for all who the true Totalus Rankium champion is, and bonus points for a best villain face off episode between Calhoun and Caracalla.
A different viewpoint
It’s fascinating as an Aussie to hear a British take on American history. There are some things I knew about that I enjoyed hearing from a different perspective, and some things I’d never known that I’ve learned from these guys.
Perfect podcast voices, a great mix of funny and informative and the guys manage to make an interesting and charming narrative from the material they have.
Best podcast in existence
Possibly one of the best podcasts in exist -bar there Roman one- brings fun and light to history. Bring a fun spim to poplitics and history very light hearted this is a must listen. Made me be able to watch Hamilton then pick up the book- at twelve- I hope that soon roger will turn up soon on the phone. This will inspire anyone to start to think about history I think that there could be no better podcast.
