Widow receives fraction of promised compensation after devastating floods
On 19 June, torrential rains inundated the city of Duhok, leading to extensive flooding and significant damage to residential and commercial properties. Mary Nisan, whose home was submerged and severely damaged, claims that despite a government promise of 10 million dinars in compensation, she had only received six million, which is around AUD$7,000.

'Negative portrayal': Peter Esho rejects media coverage following church unrest
Community leader, Peter Esho, proposed a meeting with NSW government representatives including Premier Chris Minns to discuss the aftermath of the assault on Bishop Mar Mari and subsequent unrest. During this meeting on 19 April 2024, Esho said the Assyrian community rejected outright the negative portrayal of them being presented by some in the mainstream media.
