Befriending Your Nervous System with Deb Dana

Awareness Houston, Episode 3: Join Jennifer and Deb Dana as they discuss the path of befriending the nervous system. When we lean in to our body's cues with curiosity, our resilience grows.
Deb Dana is a clinician, consultant and author specializing in complex trauma. Her work is focused on using the lens of Polyvagal Theory to understand and resolve the impact of trauma in our lives.
Polyvagal Theory is a theory of the autonomic nervous system and offers a framework to understand why we think and act in the ways they do.  The goal of the autonomic nervous system is to protect us by sensing safety and risk, listening moment by moment to what is happening in our bodies, in our environments and in the connections we have with others.  Deb’s work shows how an understanding of Polyvagal Theory applies to relationships, mental health, and trauma and how we can use an understanding of the organizing principles of Polyvagal Theory to change the ways we navigate our daily lives.

Deb has published two books on Polyvagal Theory - The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy and Polyvagal Exercises for Safety and Connection, and has a busy career training therapist around the world in becoming Polyvagal informed.  She is a consultant to the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium in the Kinsey Institute, a consultant to Khiron Clinics, and an advisor to Unyte.
