#101 Shaun Willson. Army Pilot to Civi Fire Fighter.

Shaun is an incredible human. As you can tell by the length of this episode, we had a LOT to talk about. He's served as an Army SSO Helicopter Pilot, deployed several times and had so many cool experiences and opportunities. He then decided later in life to give the Fireys a crack!

We talk about his lead up training, his experiences throughout his careers and the values he holds with high importance in his job!

#99 Olympian Matt Lydement. Applicants and Olympians have a LOT in common

#99 Olympian Matt Lydement. Applicants and Olympians have a LOT in common

This episode is completely different to anything else we've ever had on here! Today I chatted with my friend Matt Lydement. He's recently wrapped up at the Tokyo Olympics. I wanted to get him in to talk about what it actually takes to prepare for an Olympics. Physically and Mentally. To be so on the TOP of your sporting game that you can represent your country on a world stage. Funnily enough though, a lot of it is about mindset.

Matt talks to us about preparing for an Olympics that got cancelled and then still not allowing himself to get excited in case Tokyo 2021 didn't go ahead. He trained from home during all lockdowns. He could have used any excuse he liked to avoid training, but he never did. He only EVER showed up.

Matt has a lot of wisdom to offer all applicants. So many principles we discussed carry over to applicants. Turns out preparing for the Olympics and preparing for the ADF/Police/Fireys actually have a lot in common

We're so proud of Matt. He gave it absolutely everything and we are gunning for him a the next Commonwealth Games! To follow him on Instagram, click here

#98 Army PFA Requirements Have Dropped. Sally Explains Why You'll Struggle at Kapooka!

#98 Army PFA Requirements Have Dropped. Sally Explains Why You'll Struggle at Kapooka!

On today's episode of Badass I talk to Sally who has just wrapped up her time at Kapooka for Army Reserves. She's a GSO Officer Cadet and absolutely smashed her way through Kapooka. Sally trained with TBG for a year prior to heading off and it was because of this training that she absolutely dominated.

As we would all know, Army has reduced the PFA requirements for non-combat job roles. Sally explains why you still need to strive for much higher than the minimum standards. There are a lot of components of Kapooka that recruits will find difficult if they have only just reached those lower standards

Sally absolutely loved Kapooka and you can hear the excitement and passion in her voice as she talks to us about it. She had an awesome time and did really well

I'm so proud of Sally and all that she has worked for in the past year. She has stayed committed to her training and it shows.

    #97 Commando Steve

    #97 Commando Steve

On today's episode I chat with Commando Steve. Steve Willis rose to fame during his time as 'The Commando' on The Biggest Loser back in 2007. The evolution of Commando Steve over the years saw him go on to write 3 books, compete in the CrossFit games, acted on Home & Away and become a contestant on Survivor. Steve now owns 'Get Commando Fit' down in Sydney and is a Dad to 4 gorgeous kids

I was absolutely obsessed with The Biggest Loser. I knew all the contestants, I knew all the trainers, I knew everyone and loved it. So when I had a rush of courage and reached out to Commando Steve to be on the podcast, I actually didn't expect him to respond. After all, he's a busy guy and he's Commando Steve. I was absolutely gobsmacked when he replied to say he'd love to be on the podcast. So here we are

There's so much more to Steve than camo pants and black sunglasses. For the first time on my own podcast, I was pretty much speechless. He is so insightful about everything. Everything he says can be applied to everyones lives

During this chat you'll hear my baby, Jack, carrying on at times. Whilst I organised for him to hang out with his Dad, he clearly just wanted to hang out with Commando Steve too. So if you hear weird noises and the occasional whinge...it's just my needy child. But that's life, right? We can't always create the perfect circumstances and so we do whatever we can do get the job done

You can follow Commando Steve on IG here

Amazing.

If you’re planning on applying for the ADF listen to this podcast. I’ve started listening to it on my long runs inspiring and nothing else has been as motivational to keep going and work hard. Fantastic advice and motivation to smash those goals.

Best podcast for information, motivation & fitness help.

In this podcast, Carly covers everything to do with joining the military or AFP. From fitness to food to mindset, you will always take something from each episode you listen to. Carly has interviewed such a wide range of people, you are sure to be able to relate to many of them. I also love how she includes her own pieces of wisdom and advice. Can’t recommend this podcast enough!

Brilliant advice and insight

I started training online with TBG one week ago. I have already seen how far I have to go to be ready for kapooka and highly recommend joining TBG online to make sure you are prepared. I have enlisted and passed my PFA already but I’m needing to do so much more preparation for kapooka. This podcast is so helpful in helping prepare. Thank you Carly and Michael!!!
