Australia needs to be able to compete on value, not on cost. If you could sum up where the future of manufacturing is for Australia, it will be in the creation of that high value, niche, product.

How engineering is shaping our world + Career ideas + Education

This show offers so much to engineers and non-engineers alike. It’s about how engineering is shaping our world in a fast, furious and exciting way. The enthusiastic hosts – with Mel taking the lead - interview engineers whose careers span a vast trajectory from working for the Royal Airforce; to engineers fighting climate change; to TV hosts. I’m sure the show is particularly popular with engineers (I mean the previous title says it all “Beer with an engineer”) but it’s also a great listen for educators, parents and anyone – particularly school leavers – thinking about career options. At the present time, one of the mantras around future careers is “a lot of the jobs that people will be doing in 10 years don’t exist today and some of these jobs, we can’t even imagine.” Yet, listening to this show, convinces me that studying engineering is such a solid foundation for our challenging and mysterious future. (Note: Now that Mel and Dom have done their part to promote engineering all we need is a Netflix series about engineers to challenge all those ones about doctors and lawyers….move over “Suits”, here comes “Calculating”.
