Brendan Clay - First Mix In The 404 Digs with Mia Listening On (November 2021‪)‬ Selections For All Occasions—DJ Mixes by Brendan Clay

    • Music

Most DJ dads—particularly newer ones—will likely confirm that stealing an uninterrupted hour to yourself to throw a few tunes together becomes a bit of a rare treat.

The wife and I have spent most of 2021 handling significant life changes: selling an apartment, buying another one, moving into said abode, bringing a brand new life into the world, settling into our new roles as (human) parents, and all the fun and challenge associated with that—all during a pandemic, no less. Accordingly, opportunities to lock oneself away for a gluttonous hour of music have not presented in abundance.

Well, I was lucky enough to do just that last week!

It was my first proper mix in our new digs, overlooking leafy Carlingford, and certainly the first since welcoming little Mia into the world. (She didn't offer much in the way of a reaction at the time, but there's still time—I'll keep working on her!)

This is an hour of music, somewhat hastily thrown together, without any meticulous planning, rhyme, nor reason. Included are a few newer burners that were previously untouched and unplayed, along with some largely forgotten—and, indeed, recently relocated—gems on vinyl from yesteryear. In short, if I thought it might sound reasonable at the time, it went on.

If you fancy a listen, you'll hear efforts from Sune @emilsunesson, Tilman @tilman, Retromigration @retromigration, Finnebassen @finnebassen, Session Victim @sessionvictim, Clive From Accounts @clivefromaccounts and Felipe Gordon @felipe-gordon, to name a few. Hope you dig!
