Amazing, but confusing moments?
I love these QCode shows, very immersive and entertaining…. But is there a way to help listeners understand what is happening in the episodes that rely heavily on the sound design? I honestly had no idea what was going on in the final episode. Would help if there was a little more in there to help explain what was happening.
Tough when you’re so invested in the story but not quite sure how everything ended. Still very enjoyable though!
Weak offering
The vocal talent of Cynthia is clear in this QCode offering, but the narrative is weak, poorly paced and doesn’t offer a compelling throughline or any well-developed characters beyond Raylene to some small degree. The season needed to be substantially longer OR substantially tighter written plot wise.
A huge point of failure is the structure of the recording itself; any tension is regularly interrupted given that for every two minutes of narrative there’s a minute of something else, between intro, recap, explanation of what an immersive audio drama is (as if we weren’t aware of the concept of 3d audio and need a 30 second reminder), mid roll ad for another podcast, second mid roll ad, and credits. It really doesn’t stand up well against other strong QCode offerings, despite a stellar performance from Erivo.
