Podcast #33 - ”Untwisting Scriptures” author Rebecca Davis talks about Book 5 & Book Crafters Academy

Podcast #33 - ”Untwisting Scriptures” author Rebecca Davis talks about Book 5 & Book Crafters Academy

"Untwisting Scriptures" author Rebecca Davis talks about her latest book: Untwisting Scriptures to Find Freedom and Joy in Jesus Christ: Book 5 Brokenness & Suffering, as well as her author coaching training called Book Crafters Academy.
Once again Anna and Rebecca dive into some common teachings in the church and ask the question, does this align with scripture? “Brokenness" as a lifestyle is often taught as a “holy” way of living, as if we are to constantly live as a broken vessel in order for God to use us. Rebecca explains that the bible never talks about God “breaking” His faithful people. God is our savior and rescuer, not an abuser who breaks His people down. The Bible explains that He heals the broken hearted and sets the captives free. So why are we being taught the opposite? This teaching can be misleading and can misrepresent God as an abuser. It sounds “holy” to ask God to break you, but this is not what God has for us according to the scriptures. He wants us to be healed and whole.
Anna and Rebecca discuss the term “victim mentality” and how sometimes the term is used to label and dismiss people who are suffering. Labelling someone and saying they have a victim mentality can be a way of bypass someone’s feelings and gaslighting their reality. Although it’s true that some people can get stuck in this mentality and use it as an excuse not to heal and move forward, this label can be misused and stop people from getting the help they need and sharing their story.
And, they talk about Jesus and boundaries. Some people teach that Jesus never had boundaries and that we are to let our guards down and let everyone in. That’s not true either. Jesus constantly took time away to be alone with His Father. He often would leave his friends and family, their needs and demands, and go spend time getting refreshed in the presence of God. He also was very mindful of which questions to answer, how to answer and knew when to engage with people and address certain situations. We can learn a lot from His example.
Lastly, they discuss Book Crafters Academy, Rebecca's author coaching training.

Podcast #32 - Psychologically kidnapped? Coercive control and domestic abuse w/ Dr. Debra Wingfield

Podcast #32 - Psychologically kidnapped? Coercive control and domestic abuse w/ Dr. Debra Wingfield

October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month! This is a very INFORMATIVE podcast on domestic violence and coercive control. PDF slideshow available (link below). What is the difference between domestic violence and coercive control? For years, people have thought of domestic abuse as only physical violence, but research shows that domestic abuse is not an "incident" that happens, but rather can be a pattern of behavior of coercive control.
Many times domestic abuse and coercive control can fly under the radar and look "normal" when in reality, it isn't. Physical violence is an obvious way to recognize abuse. However, there are many other non-physical forms of abuse that we dive into in this podcast, including: coercive control, intimidation, oppressive language, emotional and financial abuse, isolation, gaslighting, name calling, etc. Children can also be used as a tool to manipulate and abuse a spouse.
"Stay and Pray" is a common yet very damaging message that is preached to women in the church. Often times women stay in abusive relationships longer because of religious beliefs!
Debra Wingfield, Ed.D. is an Author, Speaker, and Trainer with 46 years of combined experience working with abuse across the lifespan. She counseled children and adults who experienced family violence, abuse, and child maltreatment for over 25 years. She educates and trains professionals across multiple disciplines-mental health, advocates, attorneys, and court professionals on the impacts of coercive control, domestic abuse and family violence. A former faculty member in psychology and counseling at Regis University and the University of Southern Colorado. The author of healing from abuse books for adults and children include Eyes Wide Open: Help! with Control Freak Co-Parents, From Darkness to Light: Your Inner Journey, and Through a Child’s Voice: Transformational Journaling.

Podcast #30 - ”What is the Orphan heart and how do I know if I have one?” with Andy Glover

Podcast #30 - ”What is the Orphan heart and how do I know if I have one?” with Andy Glover

What is the orphan heart and how do I know if I have one? Are we all born with it? How do we allow God's love to pour in and change us?
Andy and Anna talk about some of the characteristics of an orphan heart and how it influences the way we navigate through the world and our life. They also discuss how it effects our view of God and where this idea of an orphan heart comes from.
God has always been loving us, He IS our Father, He IS loving us constantly, it's becoming aware of this revelation that changes our hearts. Our sin does not hinder God from loving us and coming to us, but rather He is faithful to reveal himself to us as our loving Father.
Andy and his wife are a part of Fatherheart Ministries. They have been in full time ministry since 1985. They started out working with "Youth with a Mission" for 13 years then started their own ministry called "Revival to the Nations" (RTTN) where they teach the revelation of the Father's love.
