The Blue Bandit Rides Again | With Wiebe Wakker
Bridie Schmidt catches a ride to Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport with Wiebe Wakker, who in 2016 took off on an around-the-world trip in a converted all-electric VW Golf dubbed the Blue Bandit to tackle the notion that EVs can’t drive very far.
And tackle this myth he did, with a Dutch tenacity and passion for adventure that arguably could be likened to that of explorer Abel Tasman.
As well as touching on Blue Bandit’s adventures, Wiebe and Bridie also reflect on the changing landscape of electric vehicles in the Netherlands where EVs now make up a third of all car sales. Wiebe highlights the positive mindset and green attitude that have propelled the popularity of EVs in his home country, as well as progressive policy from government.
Lastly, Wiebe reveals that he has almost finished his upcoming book, a captivating memoir that not only recounts his pioneering EV road trip, but also the human triumphs and lessons learned along the way.
