Episode 2 - John Haenke from Fishing Downunder The Australian Fly Fishing Podcast

    • Sport

Recently, I got to talk with a good friend John Haenke, a fishing guide based in North Queensland. Most of you will know John from his filming and production works such as The Fishing Downunder DVD series, but there’s plenty more to his story. In this episode we talk about how John got started in fly fishing, when he began his career behind a camera and the places he explored and people he met in this journey we call life. A pivotal moment in his career was being invited to work with Rod Harrison and Lefty Kreh filming and fishing remote locations and creating some very fond memories and learning from the best in the business. John went on to film the hugely successful Wildfish series with Peter Morse, spent over 4 years with Andrew Ettingshausen filming Escape with ET and created The Fishing Downunder DVD series, a name familiar with any fishing household. He’s made everlasting friendships with some of the best guides and anglers in the country, explored some of the wildest places all with the help of his lovely wife Peta by his side. In more recent years John has successfully guided in Hervey Bay, Rockhampton and now Bowen. The region has a plethora of options whether it’s chasing big golden trevally and permit on the flats, sooty grunter in the rivers or sight casting to metre plus barramundi in the dams, John really is living and working in an angler’s paradise. He also regularly contributes to world class publications such as Fly Life magazine and has started an Artwork for Anglers program which combines his love for photography and fishing.
