HOW TO Parent Less and Love it More

We are so excited to dive into whholehearted and respectful parenting and what it means with Minimalist Moms Host Diane Boden. This discussion will help you get to the heart of a wholehearted parenting approach by simplifying what you DO to get to the relationship you hope to have with your kid. We discuss how to both acknowledge parental emotions and needs and your child's emotions/needs and meet in the middle in a peaceful place.

This episode is a combination of two separate conversations we had with Diane. In these discussions, we give a breakdown of our favorite tips on discipline as well and how to create an environment of teaching over punishment and reward. We touch on creating rhythms and routines, setting calm boundaries and responding to sibling conflicts. In true minimal fashion we also discuss how to PARENT and talk less and get more results.

Homeschooling and Trusting Your Ability to Teach with Jen Lumanlan

Homeschooling and Trusting Your Ability to Teach with Jen Lumanlan

So many of us are facing a big decision this Fall, will we be teaching our kids at home? Or maybe we have no choice at all. So many of us are being thrown into the role as teacher and parent. This week Felica is interviewing Jen Lumanlan of Your Parenting Mojo. Jen Lumanlan holds an M.S. in Psychology (Child Development) and an M.Ed., and hosts the Your Parenting Mojo podcast which is a reference guide for parents of toddlers and preschoolers based on scientific researchers and the principles of respectful parenting.  In each episode she examines a topic related to parenting and child development from all sides to help parents understand how to make decisions about raising their children.  She lives in California with her husband and daughter. Jen brings us wisdom backed with immense research (her specialty!) on why we should trust our ability to teach, our child’s ability to learn (and lead their own education through their own interests!) and the process of homeschooling.

We touch on why we can let go of the perfect curriculum, standardized tests, and we discuss the value of play in education, socialization and explore the concept of pandemic pods. We hope that this wide ranging conversation helps any of you choosing (or maybe without the choice) about your child’s education this Fall feel more confident.

If you would like to learn more about Jen you can find her on her website https://yourparentingmojo.com/

If you would like to learn more about Jen you can find her here.

You can listen to her podcast here.

Here is her blog post on socialization in schools and her blog post on schemas is here, and she has some wonderful information on the Pandemic Pods 'in a box' course here. You can find  is Jen’s course to help you decide if you’re ready to homeschool here.

How GOOD Apologies Change Every Relationship (Even the one with ourselves)

How GOOD Apologies Change Every Relationship (Even the one with ourselves)

We ALL make mistakes. Every single one of us. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, we hurt people. Although many of us are over apologizers for unnecessary things, we often become non-apologizers when it comes time to truly say we are sorry. We buffer it with defensiveness or ego, and our attempts at apologies fall flat. Our relationships suffer when this happens.

In this episode, we address how over apologizing is unhelpful and give tips on how to avoid it, and then we delve deep into what makes a true apology, and how to get out of the way of our ego enough to truly make amends in our relationships.

This topic is so beautiful because it really gives us space in our relationships to admit when we do wrong, listen without defensiveness, and truly heal.

Articles and authors that inspired us:

Harriet Lerner // Why Won’t You Apologize

Maja Jovanovic // Sorry to bother you, but do you say “sorry” too much? What to say instead.

    Finding Wisdom in Chaos

    Finding Wisdom in Chaos

In this special episode, we welcome a new host onto our show! Katelin is Taralyn’s sister and Felica’s sister-in-law, and we are so excited for you all to get to know her better.
For many of us, this is a time when our current reality does not match our expectation of it. Even without a pandemic, sometimes our career, our relationships, or our health doesn’t line up with what we think it should be. In this episode, we talk about the wisdom from authors that we are personally leaning on during this time, and which books are really helping us the most.
We have found comfort in the wisdom that has transcended time from the philosophers of the past such as Socrates and Plato, and modern thought leaders such as Ryan Holiday and Eckhart Tolle. As we talk about these different philosophies, we explore the idea that when we feel like we are losing ourselves because the outer circumstances that we have learned to define ourselves with change or disappear all together, it is actually an opportunity to truly find ourselves. We are more than our circumstances; we are not our thoughts. It is a quite liberating realization!
    Books or authors we mentioned:
Stillness is Key // Ryan Holiday
The Obstacle is the Way // Ryan Holiday
A New Earth // Eckhart Tolle

Coaching Yourself Through Any Problem with Robin Davis

Coaching Yourself Through Any Problem with Robin Davis

What do you do when you find in a circumstance that you don’t like? Do your thoughts make your situation feel better or worse? The concept that I have control over my thoughts and feelings, and therefore my actions and results was a mind blowing philosophy when I was first introduced to it years ago, and I have found this philosophy help me in so many situations since.

This week, I had the chance to interview Robin Davis, a Certified Life Coach from The Life Coach School. I have LOVED using the model they teach there for years, and have used it in self coaching with a lot of success. In this episode, Robin breaks down the model to apply to any situation in your life, and then takes the time to coach me with a personal dilemma I have been having.

    Happy listening!

    Love, Taralyn

    The Power Of Beautiful Words

    The Power Of Beautiful Words

Hey everyone! It’s Taralyn today. It’s no secret that I LOVE words. I love talking; I love writing; I love reading. I feel so much of who I am and how I think is a result of the ideas and philosophies I have read or heard over the years.  Words have the power to change the world! I have found that memorizing beautiful words from the masters who have come before me to be a powerful way to have those ideas at my fingertips when the need arises. I have also been pleasantly surprised at how fun it has been to introduce my kids to poetry and great literature and how easy it is to have them memorize these words.

In this episode, I talk about different categories of words that my kids and I memorize: historical documents, poetry, inspiring leader quotes, and scripture. I explain the benefits of such a practice, and give you lots of easy tips and tricks to have you easily incorporate some literature love into your parenting.
