It's Giving Us Tumblr Vibes Culture Club.

    • Society & Culture

Hello fellow kids,
We begin this already cursed week with a little personal catch up as well as a chat about celebrity merch after Olivia Rodrigo’s team leaves fans in a brutal mood.
Maggie penned a personal piece for R29 Australia this week titled Am I Queer Enough To Call Myself Bi? She reads a little bit out for us and we reference our February episode that you can listen to here.
The Wall Street Journal released a new report on TikTok recently stating that the bots have figured out the main algorithm key is your watch time. This leads us into a discussion around our algorithms and how TikTok is just Tumblr 2.0. We reference this article by Charli Clement for VICE titled TikTok’s LGBTQ+ Discourse is Just a Re-Run of Tumblr.
We only JUST spoke about eco-anxiety but maybe we should've waited because this week it’s been off the charts. The IPCC report into climate change has made many of us reconsider what the future will look like and if we want to bring kids into this mess. One piece we both resonated with was Elfy Scott’s article for PedestrianTV titled Climate Change Is Making Young Aussies Rethink Having Kids, But Do Our Leaders Even Give A Shit? Elfy kindly reads out some of her words and you can follow the talented writer here on Instagram and Twitter.
We also post this heartwarming TikTok by user @joshuaturek.
This week, Maggie goes full fantasy with The Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney+ while Jas recommends a report from Triple J’s Hack called On TikTok, lies and misinformation run wild that you can listen to here.
Katie Zhou created our fab new cover art and India Raine is our wonderful producer and composer of our jingle. Email us at cultureclubmail@gmail.com, find us on Instagram @cultureclubpod, or on our personal accounts @jasmineeskye and @yemagz.
That’s all from us! Stay safe and stay sane.
Mags and Jas xoxo
