Alternative Assessment: “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury

Working in pairs, you will create a podcast on Anchor.com that is an interview between an Earth student and a student from Ray Bradbury’s version of Venus in "All Summer in a Day" about your respective lives, including what happened to Margo. Discuss how the events were significant and reflect on your feelings about Margo’s predicament. How would you have felt in her shoes? While still in character, relate a story from your own life about witnessing bullying or being bullied yourself. Or perhaps you might include a third point of view. You may fictionalize your personal accounts, but make them believable.

Student 1 is a seventh grader from Venus in “All Summer in a Day.”

Student 2 is a seventh grader from Earth.

Interview each other as part of an interplanetary cultural exchange, making sure to describe details of each planet and how the settings on both Venus and Earth contribute to a sense of mood.

You will write the interview together in a shared Google Doc and decide who will play which part.

To earn full credit, your podcast must include at least three of our unit vocabulary words. It must include three distinct details from the story, as well as an in-depth discussion about life on Ray Bradbury’s Venus in general and Margo’s story in particular. You will share your podcast and Google Doc in our Google Classroom.
