BeSus 08: Leaders Discuss Our Future
It’s time for our first episode of the new year! Today, we have two great guests: Juliette and Anouk from Act4Health, the climate change and health advocacy group of IFMSA-NL! They will tell us how it was to go to COP27 in Egypt in November of 2022 and all of the vital issues on the table at the event. We’ll talk about critical issues like the loss and damage fund, what the global temperature will look like in the next years according to COP27 predictions and policies, but also what we as students can do to help and advocate. An educational episode of BeSus you do not want to miss!

Let's Talk Human Rights! Talking with: Dr. Marco Versluis
Welcome back to another episode of Let’s Talk Human Rights brought to you by the Standing Committee of Human Rights and Peace from IFMSA Groningen.
In this episode, we interviewed Dr. Marco Versluis. Dr. Versluis is a gynecologist and obstetrician who teaches about Reproductive Health, from contraception and female health, through to pregnancy and birth. Since 2012, he has worked as a trainer in a Surgical Training Programme in Masanga, Sierra Leone.
In this episode we dove into topics surrounding safe motherhood, looking at the state of things internationally as well as within the Netherlands. We looked at various factors that are responsible for high maternal and neonatal mortality rates; why they occur, how they can be tackled. We also got deeper into the dutch system, examining how the midwifery system works in comparison to other countries. -

We unraveled the concept of safe motherhood and how the lack of practice affects the human rights of the mother and the baby. Moreover, we touched upon the impact of societal factors which influence the practice of safe motherhood and family planning such as racial disparities and the decisions on the abortion ban.
