Lipedema, the disease they call fat, is a chronic fat disorder that affects 17 million women in the USA and as many as 350 million women worldwide. It is often mistaken for simple obesity. Generally under-recognized and misdiagnosed, symptoms include pain, swelling and weight gain disproportionately distributed in the thighs, buttocks, legs, and hips with a smaller upper body. Lipedema fat is resistant to diet and exercise and without intervention progresses and worsens over time. This flash briefing offers tips, news, and updates with the founder and director of Lipedema Simplified, Catherine A. Seo, Ph.D., and guest experts. Standard of Care for Lipedema in the US
Today I'd like to tell you about a paper by a committee led by Dr. Karen Herbst.
The paper is called: Standard of care for lipedema in the United States, which was published in the peer-reviewed journal Phlebology in May 2021.
The goal of this US committee was to agree on a description of lipedema and write a consensus document for a Standard of Care for the US.
This paper is important for women with lipedema because this consensus is being promoted as a foundation for uniform treatment guidelines in the US.
This document may also influence insurance coverage and allocation of government funds.
Meditation - Sacred Purpose
On this day, think about one thing that your body requires, that it didn't need yesterday.
Listen, observe, and pay attention to the physical, emotional, mental, and psychological stresses in your body, and respond to one of them fully and consciously.
Your goal for today is to pay attention to your body in every way, one of the challenges of being able to quiet and listen.
Moving Beyond Self-Sabotage
What is self sabotage?
It often comes with the voice in your head, the one that we call inner critic, in which you find fault within yourself.
That inner critic can often come up when you get very close to something that you've worked hard for.
I wish you that awareness, of deep understanding and allowing it to just be.
I wish you self-acceptance, self-love, and support.
We're here to support you.
