4.19 Will battery tech ice the petrol car? With Paul Martin | Nucleus Investment Insights

This week our attention turns to the growing electrification of our world. Nucleus Wealth's Head of Investments Damien Klassen, and Head of Advice Tim Fuller are joined by energy aficionado Paul Martin to help us determine if battery tech will ice the petrol car

You can read Paul's articles here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-martin-195763b/

Whilst for most of us this is probably the most noticeable in the evolution of our gardening equipment, leading the vanguard of the new era in "powered by power" devices is the electric vehicle, or EV.

Tesla, with the help of significant US government support, has spent the last decade or so dragging the western automotive industry from its rusted-on adherence to fossil fuel powered engines, into the 21st century and beyond.

As electric vehicles have been proven to be, not just the future, but the near future, more and more established players have been forced to develop and adapt their own vehicle production methods to try to stay relevant.

With all emerging technologies, and in particular big tasks like redefining how our vehicles are powered, there comes engineering challenges, alternative energy approaches and vested interests.
Several energy sources have been offered as alternatives to batteries, with hydrogen being brought to the fore as a potential suitor with some noteworthy advantages, on the surface anyway. But more on that in the show.

To help colour in the exciting and long overdue revision of reenergising global transport we are lucky to be joined on the line, from Canada, by energy aficionado, Paul Martin.

4.18 Why it's time to move assets offshore | Nucleus Investment Insights

In today's investment webinar, Nuclues Wealth's Chief Strategist David Llewellyn Smith, Head of Investments Damien Klassen, and Head of Advice Tim Fuller discuss why it's time to move assets offshore

    View the presentation slides: https://nucleuswealth.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/moving-assets-offshore.pptx.pdf

Following the Great Pandemic of 2020, the global economy is entering a robust recovery. This new business cycle is not like those that have come after the previous two crises, the Global Financial Crisis and Tech Wreck. Those two crashes were led by the US and the recoveries led by China. This time around, the crisis was led by China and the recovery will be led by the US.

The difference is crucial to asset returns over the coming cycle. Aggregate global growth may appear to be the same at the headline level, but with the US the growth engine and China the caboose, the range and order of asset cars arrayed between them will be very different. So will be the returns for each.

Moreover, these cyclical forces will further be buffeted by epochal shifts in structural forces shaping the global economy which have, if anything, changed even more dramatically in the past few years.

What this means is that now is the time for investors to abandon Australia for global assets.

4.17 Boom & Bust: Australia's two-speed property market, with Martin North | Nucleus Investment Insights

4.17 Boom & Bust: Australia's two-speed property market, with Martin North | Nucleus Investment Insights

Today we turn our eye back to Australian property as low interest rates has fuelled a marked surge in demand as the economy rebuilds post pandemic.

What has emerged however, is a two speed house price boom. With a superb run up in prices of suburban houses, as space and isolation are sought, prices of inner-city apartments, typically favoured by investors, have languished.

To help colour in exactly the extent of these falling rents, we are lucky to be joined by friend of the show Martin North, who is founder of boutique research firm, Digital Finance Analytics.

4.16 From the Frontlines of Australia's Housing Boom, w/ Catherine Cashmore | Nucleus Investment Insights

In today's investment podcast, Nucleus Wealth's Chief Economist Leith van Onselen, Head of Investments Damien Klassen, and Head of Advice Tim Fuller are joined by property buyers advocate Catherine Cashmore to get an on the ground look at Australia's housing boom.

You can find Catherine at https://cashmoreco.com.au/

After a tumultuous 2020, that saw rocky and rebounding equity markets, emergency stimulus and both rental eviction moratoriums and bankruptcy protections.

Add to this the snapping shut of international arrivals, it would be safe to assume that even our most resilient of markets, property, would be showing signs of pressure under these circumstances.

For those states enduring lockdowns, this was particularly true, as inspections and auction opportunities become limited and sale volumes slowed.

The story quickly changed however as the lockdowns eased, with an explosive mix of pent-up demand, record low interest rates and the hunger for space and lifestyle seeing both cyclical regions and urban detached housing catapult prices with vigour.

    Agenda:
Strongest growth in property prices since 1988
    Mortgage market booming
    Auction market booming
    Lack of supply
How long can the boom run?

Amateur hour

Seriously wouldn’t let these guys near a cent of my money. You’d be better off putting your money in a one decision index fund. David is particularly pompous and annoying.
