In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake.

Absolutely. Frikkin. Incredible.

I first listened to this completely by accident, it came up as recommended on one of my podcast apps and I actually meant to try the one next to it, but I have never been so thankful for my clumsy thumbs in my whole life.

The writing and storytelling is honestly breathtaking.

I’ve listened all the way through at least 3 times now, and I cannot get over how a gothic/eldrich horror podcast has actually made me feel so positive and hopeful and empowered. It is inclusive in a way that feels effortless, and to see myself represented in a setting where I usually have nothing to relate to is just phenomenal.

Yes, there’s creepy/scary bits, but the way that the characters tackle them, the way that the characters know who they are, and the way they stand for whats right and do their best to protect l vulnerable people is simply incredible.

I have never subscribed to patreons or bought merch or anything for any podcasts or anything like that as I don’t have a lot of money to spare these days, but I have subscribed to Old God’s patreon - not only because I wanted to hear the exclusive episodes - but also because what they are doing and the stories they are telling feel truly important, and if my couple of dollars a month can in any way help them continue then that would be enough (the bonus content is cool as heck though too!)

Anyway, long story short - five stars, 10/10, incredible, I simply cannot recommend this podcast enough.
