Superb

Glorious sound design, epically horror filled story with the most delicate unpicking of these two characters that dance around their trust for each other. Love how the story makes sure that you remember all the threads of mystery, too!

Promising start, outstanding in the midst, extremely poor late progession

Long time fan of the series though season 3 was a big let down. Nothing in this season is followed through long enough to be impactful and the portions that are given reasonable time to develop use that time improperly

Yellow is a very large issue that I had with season 3 and he essentially dominoes into the majority of the faults in it. Not only is he not in the series long enough to do much of anything but he was such a terrible way to rework a character. I didn’t like him initially, I thought it was an odd movement of the plot, though I saw potential in the concept and as he developed I grew a sense of attachment to what his character displayed and began appreciating what could be done with him. Just as he starts finally blooming into something hopeful, not even 3 episodes in, his character and what it serves to represent is entirely cut. John’s return is without impact as he isn’t gone long enough for it to hold much of one and he’s brought back in such an underwhelming way. Yellow’s sudden removal is given a vague reason in Part 28 and clearly gets further elaboration though it doesn’t change how mismanaged the execution was. Arthur and John’s individual isolation following Part 20 could have filled the episodes of Yellow in a really meaningful way and the plot could have still progressed near identically

I enjoyed the initial Larson / mansion plot but with the addition of the goings on with Yellow and John it took a backseat letting neither develop enough. Action and character relations are usually balanced relatively well though the same can’t be said of this season. Much of the mansion plot played out too fast, completely contradicting the caves which seemed more a one off plot than the basis of the majority of the season. In that it has quite severe pacing issues and leaves a lot of repetition in the limited exploration and commentary able to be given

Each season prior follows a very clear goal of which Arthur and John work towards and there are deviations occasionally but you can still understand what the over-looming goal is. These characters are motivation driven by a writer who thrives in clear conclusions. This season has about 6 different main goals that are insinuated to culminate in something though it’s not entirely clear what. Initially, the goal is to go back to Arkham. Presumably this is for the entire season based on Arthur’s comments in Part 28 but I don’t understand why. Arthur can’t go back to Arkham, he’s well aware of this prior though he seems to forget that he is most certainly a wanted criminal there in this season. He’s guided by an uncharacteristically childish hope of returning to the normalcy it brought to his life which does not align with the building of his character at all before this. He’s shown to be much more sinister and disconnected than before his binding to John and this hope may have been plausible for him in early season 1 but it’s such an out of character motivator for someone who’s otherwise very smart and would certainly understand the implications of returning and be vehemently against it

The emotional impact of Part 27 is stripped down by just how regularly that concept is used. It was very impactful in Parts 4

A must listen

This podcast is a must listen. The way the story is told, forces you to use your imagination - that can be all the more scarey. So descriptive. The voice talents are incredible. A "Call of C'thulhu" style horror story that forces you to want to hear more. Five stars is not enough for this podcast.
