Six Figures in School Hours is all about helping you run a successful business and still be a good parent.

Because in my experience most business-owning parents don’t want to build a global empire or make a gazillion dollars a year. I mean it would be nice but it’s not their top priority.

They just want to earn a decent income and have time to read their kids a bedtime story without having a meltdown in the process.
Yes, we know running a business can be rewarding. However, it can also seep into every life crack, eat up your energy and leave you exhausted, stressed and snapping at your small humans.

In Six Figures in School Hours, me, Kate Toon award-winning digital marketing coach and business mentor will be sharing practical and doable tips for parents to run a successful business, make serious money and not burn themselves to a frazzle in the process.

We’ll be chatting with real-life parents about their experiences of managing the juggle, as well as experts in parenting, finance, productivity, mindset, communication and more.

I’ll show you how to turn that six-figure profit dial up or down depending on the compromises you’re willing to make.
As well as that we’ll be sharing tools and tactics to manage your money, be more productive and focus on what matters, along with inspiring stories from other successful business parents who know exactly how it feels.
Six Figures in School Hours is a smart, honest business self-help podcast that gives you the skills, the tools and the confidence to never again need to choose between a successful business and a happy family life.

Working for corporate while helping working mummas with Carina O'Brien (Chat)

Working for corporate while helping working mummas with Carina O'Brien (Chat)

So I live in a little bubble of small business, doing my thing at home in my bra and pants.

It has its own challenges, and sometimes the juggle feels impossible.
But I cannot imagine how much harder it would be to have a real job.
    To have a ‘career’.
To get up each day and trek to my workplace in an outfit, dropping my kid off at childcare on the way, trying to seem professional and grown up after 2 hours of sleep with Weetabix on my blouse.

Today’s guest knows how this feels, and has built an entire business around helping mums pursue their careers and manage their families as well.

I can’t wait to hear her advice.

    Tune in to learn:
How Carina juggles the small business world, and the big corporate international company world while raising two young kids.
Why Carina takes a more relaxed approach with her parenting style
How Carina and her husband navigate the organised chaos of work and home life.
Why finding time for herself is one of Carina’s biggest challenges right now
Why talking with other parents can bring up the parent guilt, and how Carina addresses it.
How communicating through shared calendars can help your productivity
Carina’s tip for being better with your money.

How to feel less parent guilt when working from home (Agony Aunt)

How to feel less parent guilt when working from home (Agony Aunt)

As a fellow human trying to balance parenting and running a business, I know how hard it can be.
This week I want to address your woes in another Agony Aunt episode. I asked members of the Misfit Entrepreneurs Facebook group what their biggest challenges were as business parents.
And today I’ll answer one from Bec Slack from CleverStuff. Bec’s biggest challenge is:
“When they were younger the feeling of guilt for using daycare when people thought working from home meant they should be with me (noone actually said it, but it was the feeling).
Now they are older it's the guilt of being home and them asking to do something but I still have work to do.
Mind you, their face when I can make an assembly to see them get an award or being able to attend book parade makes up for it.
Juggling is tricky no matter what though. It's not just work Vs kids, it's work Vs kids Vs partner Vs mental health Vs social life Vs hobbies Vs sleep.”

Workplayrestrepeat ,

The pep talk I didn’t know I needed!

Thankyou Kate for this incredibly honest podcast and for your recent fantastic book. I run a 6 figure accounting practise as a sole practitioner in regional Victoria and stumbled across your podcast whilst taking a break from the desk to fold washing. I have 2 small children and I’ve been in business for almost 6 years now and though my business has exceeded my expectations, not unlike my parenting I am always second guessing if I am doing enough or could be doing more. The constant pressure I have put on myself working incredibly long hours and nearing exhaustion at times has been my biggest challenge. Accountants in general are very focused on productivity and I’m always looking for ways to improve this. I’ve listened to many podcasts and read many books on how to be more productive in business with children (including getting up at 5am and all of the supposed ‘productivity hacks’ known to man to work around my kids). But all my constant trying to do more and be better and bigger has often left me feeling exhausted, frustrated and falling out of love with my business. Reading your book was truly a penny drop moment for me and you spoke the words I’d been desperately needing to hear. It just makes sense. Your book is filled with a no bs* very straightforward advise but more importantly for the first time it made me personally realise that I’m actually doing enough…. More than enough. In a world that is telling us all to do and be more more more, where we are constantly sold the idea that bigger is better (and I can assure you this is certainly not the case for many of the businesses I’ve worked with over my career) hearing your words felt like a gentle hand on the back acknowledging the real challenges (and joys of course) of running your own business whilst parenting. And armed with your book and an inner deep knowing I’ve ignored for years now, I gave myself permission to be proud of everything I’ve achieved…..Even if that meant diving into a bush in my neighbours backyard to take an important business call during Covid to hide from my children whom I was homeschooling! And I’ve decided to put on a temp and take that long awaited holiday with my family for 5 weeks in June. Running my own business has been amazing- both thrilling and very challenging at times. Thank you for making me remember what I’m doing it all for. And thankyou from my 2 precious humans as well….. as we make memories we’ll cherish forever. Love your work! X

Always so relevant!

I am always amazed at how spot on Kate’s podcasts are and ‘Six Figures in School Hours’ has done it again! So easy to listen to, digest and relate to (I feel like she’s somehow spying on me). Highly recommend!

A Must-Listen Parenting Podcast for Business Owners

Kates podcast is a nice mix of education and a bit of fun for parents in business. The episode with Tony was brilliant. What great parents and business owners you and Tony are. Tony sounds like a bit of legend and a really kind soul.
