    The A-Team interviews Dr. Zachary Dunkle from Owens Recovery Science on the history and merits of Restricted Blood Flow Therapy (BFR). We discuss the science, application and execution of BFR using the Delfi units for conditions such as ACL reconstruction, Osteoarthritis, and upper extremity injuries. Zac was one of the 1st clinicians to utilize BFR in the state of Georgia and now serves as an instructor for Owens Recovery Science BFR certification courses. He works closely with Johnny Owens, DPT founder of Owens Recovery Science in research and application of restricted blood flow therapy. Zac is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist, who took a unique path to becoming at physical therapist. Prior to becoming a physical therapist, Zac served as a Scout Sniper and Reconnaissance Marine. After leaving the Marine Corps, he attended the Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. While at Penn State, Zac assisted lead researchers in the Neuromotion laboratory investigating gait changes following ACL ruptures. After graduating from Emory University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, he completed an orthopedic residency through Emory University. In addition to being an orthopedic physical therapist, he is a Certified Physical Preparation Specialist who uses unconventional training methods to enhance athletic performance. Along with being a practicing physical therapist, Zac currently teaches within both the Doctor of Physical Therapy and orthopedic residency programs at Emory University. Professionally, Zac is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the GA Physical Therapy Association. Zac currently resides in Sandy Springs with his wife, Erin and two dogs, Ayla and Kevin

    On this episode we discuss Spine care and the McKenzie Method for diagnosis and treatment of back and neck pain. Over the last 20 years as a therapist, Chris has focused the majority of his practice in outpatient orthopedic settings, working with clients 7 to 97 years old treating conditions that range from a simple diagnosis to the most complex and challenging cases. Despite the unique nature of each case, his level of care never wavers as he gives his all to patients in order to produce the best outcomes. To this end, Chris continues to improve his skills and expand the techniques he can use in treatment, including becoming McKenzie Certified and a Graston Certified provider.
    Chris is a South Jersey native and avid sports fan who played tennis in high school and is a longtime supporter of all the local community and professional sports teams. He also is active with his local Lutheran church, is a wildlife advocate and supports those suffering from Alzheimer’s. Throughout his life, there have been many people who have shared great advice. The importance of listening, compassion and even saying “I don’t know” with the drive to find the answer are just some of the skills that drive him.

    Episode 2: Meet Dr. Andrea Davis, PT, DPT

    Dr. Andrea Johnson Davis, PT, DPT earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physical Therapy degrees from College Misericordia in 1999. She was a Division III stand out and 2 year captain of the Misericordia Women's Softball team. She returned to Misericordia University to complete her Doctoral work and graduated a DPT in 2010.
    After completion of her Masters’ program, Dr. Davis began to work in a private orthopedic PT practice where she sharpened her technical, management and professional skills. She also had a coaching career at Camden Catholic High School, and later, LaSalle University. In 2013, she opened Driving Force Softball Strength and Conditioning for female sports training.​
    Looking to focus on physical therapy, and fulfill her ambition to start her own business, Dr. Davis began Davis Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab in 2016, transitioning Driving Force into a strength and conditioning program under Davis PTSR.
    Together with Dr. Antoinette Shields, she is working to raise the bar in healthcare by providing progressive care using the latest cutting edge technology. At Davis Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, she works primarily with athletes and has a special interest in ACL rehab and Return to Sport.     Episode 1 - Meet Dr. Antoinette Shields, PT, DPT

    Dr. Antoinette Shields earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2002 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. She served in the United States Army as an Ordnance Officer and is a combat Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving with the 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas. She was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and earned her Paratrooper badge while in the Army.
    After transitioning from active duty, Dr. Shields knew the importance of Physical Therapy to the many wounded soldiers returning from war, and wanted to help them have the best quality of life possible. She was named a Pat Tillman Military Scholar while she earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Neumann University in 2013.
    Dr. Shields is proud of her military service and a strong advocate for female professionals and working moms. Together with Dr. Andrea Davis, she is working to raise the bar in healthcare by providing progressive care using the latest cutting edge technology.
