S2 | Welcome to Season 2 of The Boy in the Water

From Melanie Reid Investigates comes the brand new season of The Boy in the Water. Listen as we follow the coronial inquest into the death of three-and-a-half year old Lachlan Jones, whose lifeless body was found face up in a sewage oxidation pond in the small town of Gore in January 2019.
We have been covering this case for more than four years now. In Season One we revealed multiple flaws in the police investigation and uncovered new evidence that cast serious doubt about the circumstances surrounding Lachie’s death. Then, in August 2023, the coroner announced he would be holding an inquest into Lachie’s death.
In Season Two, we take you directly inside the courtroom during the inquest to hear the voices and evidence of the key people involved in this gripping case.
Melanie and her team will be travelling to Invercargill at the bottom of New Zealand’s South Island to cover the three-week inquest in May 2024, followed by another two weeks in August.
Season Two of The Boy In The Water is coming soon to newsroom.co.nz and wherever you get your podcasts.

Sleep is under rated ,

Well edited and produced

One of the best true crime podcasts I’ve listened to for the reason that it is well explained and easy to follow. Mel is respectful in her quest for answers to a clearly very botched case from authorities. Can’t wait for more updates and hope Lachie’s Dad gets the answers he needs along with the justice deserved for this poor bub. Highly recommend listening to this podcast it has educated me on the what to do and who to call if something goes wrong in my world, definitely not the cops.

Melanie is awesome!

Melanie Reid, the investigative journalist host of this podcast, is a commanding presence in this very well told story. She has the level of impact that leads to action - like Hedley Thomas (Teacher’s Pet), as another reviewer mentioned. I prefer this series to her earlier one about the crèche.

No ending no update

I’ve followed two different podcasts on this but it’s not getting anywhere even though there’s sooo many people on the case now even from the USA. Hoping for a new update or for the mother and sons to go on trial for the real truth to come out finally I feel for the father this has been a devastating heartbreaking unforgettable nightmare for him and it needs to be resolved properly for him to have some peace for his son and for himself to live again.
