#221: How To Land 3 Interviews In One Week Without Making Any Job Applications

#221: How To Land 3 Interviews In One Week Without Making Any Job Applications

In today's episode, we talk about how you can land interviews or opportunities without making any applications.
Most job seekers are impatient and want to find and land roles quickly. They brush over the important work that actually moves the needle and leads to long term career advancement.
We cover both internal and external opportunities and I share how one female professional spent time on the right things and ended up attracting more opportunities than she could respond to.
    What you will learn:
How to identify your career story:  Pay attention to what it is you've done in the past and take the time to pull out the key things and identify the threads of your experience. Spend the time to really dig into your career history and create a coherent story around the journey.   Tailoring your profile to attract new opportunities: Highlight the experience that is most relevant for that type of role. Think about how you're presenting yourself in a way that is aligned with what you're trying to attract. Being specific about opportunities: You want to be thinking about your personal brand and be building that on a consistent basis to attract those opportunities that are aligned to what you're looking for.

    # 220: How Building A Personal Brand Landed Me Game Changing Opportunities

    # 220: How Building A Personal Brand Landed Me Game Changing Opportunities

In today's episode, we are talking about personal branding and the steps I have taken to build my brand.

If you're thinking about your career goals and you're ready to fully show up in your career, this is for you!

We dive into personal branding: what it means, the different ways you can show up, and how and where you can present yourself to land the new opportunities that you're aiming for.

We also cover building relationships with likeminded people with similar interests and how you can use these relationships to build your own brand and show up strategically.  After all, the more you expand your network, the more you open up opportunities for referral. Networking acts like a ripple effect.

    What you will learn:

What it is you want to be known for: Identify what you want to be known for and by what audience. When you are not in the room, who do you want to be talking about you? Be intentional to grow your presence and your impact.

The importance of sharing your perspective: One of the biggest pieces around building your personal brand is sharing your perspective.

You don’t always have to have ALL the pieces of the puzzle: Be willing to make mistakes, do things, test to see what works for you and what you like. Over time you can refine what it is you're ACTUALLY doing and what you're putting out there.

    # 219: You Can Make Your Next Best Career Move Sooner Than You Think

    # 219: You Can Make Your Next Best Career Move Sooner Than You Think

    [Visibility Series - Part 6]

In today's episode, we are talking about the fact that you can make your next best career move sooner than you probably think.

Making a career move isn't just about working hard. It isn't just having your head down, it isn't just doing the work.

So often the belief is that your work will speak for itself. You don't want to come across as big headed. You don't want to come across as the person who's always talking about what it is that you've done or what it is you've achieved. You think that if the impact you're creating is clear, then of course you will get promoted and recognised. In an ideal world, yes! That would be how it works, but in the real world it is not.

There is an unwritten, unspoken playbook. Many people know that it's there and many people comply with it all and subscribe to it. But the problem is that, for many of us, the playbook has pages and even chapters missing.  And because the pages of the playbook are missing, you don't even realise it.

    What will you learn:
Stepping out of your comfort zone with confidence - It is imperative that you start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. Every season of growth or every stage of growth requires you to become a different version of yourself. If you don’t step outside of your comfort zone, you will never be aware of what you are capable of.

Being the CEO of YOUR career - Clearly set out your vision. Where are you trying to get to? And what strategy are you implementing to get there? What are you focusing on? Hiring a career coach can be super helpful in supporting you with your transition.

Getting the right support to help you on your journey - So that you can be fully supported in transitioning into the version that you want to become.

    # 218: Don’t Let The Market Fool You! People Are Moving Into Amazing Roles In 2023

    # 218: Don’t Let The Market Fool You! People Are Moving Into Amazing Roles In 2023

     [Visibility Series - Part 5]

In today's episode, I talk about not letting the market fool you! Plenty of people are moving into amazing roles in 2023. And plenty of companies are hiring right now!

You may be one of the many people who have been considering making a move for a while. You may be feeling reluctant because the market seems crazy; there’s a lot going on and there's been a lot of movement. Everywhere you look, all you hear about is inflation and recession. You may feel like this isn’t a good time for you to really prioritise your career goals and making the type of move that you ultimately want to make.

I see a reluctance to take any action at all because people are equating exploring or preparing for a career move with actually doing it. Those are two very distinct phases. Preparing for a career move and contemplating a career move aren’t the same as handing in your notice and actually leaving a role.

There's preparation that has to happen before action and in this podcast, we focus on that preparation piece, because whether you are looking to make a move in the near future, whether in the next three or six months, or whether that isn’t something that’s on the cards for you right now, you should still be looking at how you can prepare yourself for the future.

Even if you don’t want to make a move right now, you should be thinking about whether you are prepared for the situation where you have to make a move. Doing your job and doing it well is one part of your career development strategy. There’s also the part where you’re actually thinking about how you're managing your career, your development, your advancement... and those things should be happening all of the time.

There’s a quote that I really like, “be ready or stay ready, so that you don’t have to get ready”. And that just means being prepared so that if things happen you’re not caught on the back foot and you actually have put things in place.

Visibility is such a key piece of the puzzle when it comes to you positioning yourself for the type of opportunity that you ultimately want.

    What you may learn:

How to be proactive - Building on your skill set and your expertise in a way that will support you in your long term goals.
How to articulate your value clearly - If you are struggling with landing interviews and landing offers there's something that’s not right with how you are articulating your experiences.
How to make a move now - Leaning in and positioning yourself to be the candidate that lands the career advancing opportunity that you desire, despite what the market may be telling you.

    # 217: How To Become Top Pick For That Role That You Really Want

    [Visibility Series - Part 4]

In today's episode, I am talking about how to become the top pick for that role that you really want. I break down the formula for blowing out your competition and becoming the top pick for your next career opportunity.

How are you currently operating in the work place? Many of us think that the amount of time we spend on something has a direct correlation to the outcome... but it doesn’t always work out that way.

If you are a corporate professional, you might have the mindset that “I need to be seen to be showing up and I need to be seen to be committed. The way that I can demonstrate that is by the amount of time I spend in the office or show up online. I need them to know that I’m working hard.”

But it isn’t always the case that the more time you spend, the more output there is. Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve been drafting an email or you’ve been working on a report, you’ve been working on something for a while and really you’ve been sitting at a blank screen for a long time? It's not about the time you spend - it's about the impact that you create.

If you want all your hard work to translate into getting promoted or landing a more senior position elsewhere, you need to learn what it is that your organisation is trying to achieve and then how to articulate the value and impact you can bring to help the organisation achieve these goals. You need to understand what that problem is first so you can position yourself to be an answer to that problem.

    What you will learn:

The importance of understanding your organisation’s goals - When what you're able to achieve and deliver is aligned with the results that an organisation is trying to achieve and where they are trying to get to, you are able to place yourself strategically to been seen and to become a solution to the organisation’s problem.

Tailoring and targeting - When you are clear and you understand what the organisation's goals are, you are better placed to tailor and target your efforts in the right place. You're able to properly diagnose what results actually look like.

Shifting your mindset - Creating opportunities for yourself in the right places, try different ways to achieve your goal and experiment with your ideas. Putting yourself out there increases your chance of opportunities.

    # 216: 3 Easy Ways To Build A Personal Brand That Will Grow Your Impact And Income

    # 216: 3 Easy Ways To Build A Personal Brand That Will Grow Your Impact And Income

    [Visibility Series - Part 3]

In today's episode I talk about 3 easy ways to build a personal brand that will grow your impact and income.

I start by sharing two big reasons for focusing on personal branding, if you are someone who wants to accelerate and grow in your career right now.

The first is opportunity. We are in a time that allows us to create opportunities like never before. Previously, we had to wait for a gatekeeper to open opportunities for us; whether that be a recruiter, a line manager or somebody within your organisation or externally that could open the door for you to be able to move forward  in your career.

It's the same with timelines - previously these have been rigid, with certain expectations around how long it would take you to move forward and promote in a role. But what happens if you are actually able to operate at that higher level? What happens if you have the ability, you have the skill set you have the mental clarity to enable you to operate at a hight level? Why should you have to wait a number of years if you're ready before that? When it comes to personal branding, there is an opportunity for you to lean into your ability to articulate the value that you can bring sooner that what your timeline may say.

The opportunity is there because you're able to put yourself out there, you’re able to build recognition for yourself, without having to wait for someone else to do for you. So that’s the big reason why your focus should be on personal branding.

The second thing is expectation. We are in the digital age, a time in history where everything is online. As much as you may feel reluctance, if you want to grow and you want to accelerate and you want expand your career, getting out there online is necessary.

So the expectation is that at the very least you’ve got an active LinkedIn profile. There’s a big reason why you need to be prioritising that.

If there’s alignment across your personal brand, there’s a level of credibility that comes and there is a level of trust that is built when someone sees this consistency.
    What you will learn:

Discover your area of expertise - Start to get to know your area of expertise and it will be easier for you to attract the right people and audience who are aligned in this area.
Who's your audience - Determine your audience - are they internal or external? Once you determine who they are, you can now position yourself for visibility.
Commitment to your brand - Establish what you need to do consistently in order for you to communicate your personal brand and achieve your goals.
