Karthik Nagarajan likes his coffee strong, just like his conversations. This cryptographer turned researcher turned screen writer turned marketer, sits down with creators, activists, business leaders, and the occasional neighbour for an unstructured chat.

The only thing filtered on this podcast is the coffee.

Ep. 94: The woman’s game with Snehal Pradhan

In this episode, Karthik speaks with Snehal Pradhan - former Indian cricketer about the extraordinary imbalance between the men's and women's game in India. She talks about her early life playing cricket with the boys at school, in an almost non-existent domestic circuit, and then eventually playing for the country. They discuss the governance of women's cricket in India first under the WCAI (Women's cricket association of India) and then under the BCCI (Board of control for cricket in India). Ep. 93: Creator Economy - For the People, By the People with Tamseel Hussain

In this episode, Karthik speaks to Tamseel Hussain, who is the Founder and CEO of PLUC.TV. PLUC (People like us create) is a platform that is designed to be a parallel creator ecosystem that helps regular people (the 99%) break out from algorithm-driven social media platforms and monetize their content in a relevant network more easily, thereby leading to financial independence. Tamseel talks about his earlier experiences in building people-led movements and 'place making' experiments in cities like Chandigarh and how it helped him arrive at the idea for PLUC. They talk about creator monetization models and how communities especially the disadvantaged ones have reacted to the mobile-driven, visual storytelling medium in an overwhelming way. They also speak about movements like 'let me breathe' that focus on the depleting air quality in Delhi and also how creators linked to the Covid-19 pandemic - like doctors and other front-line workers, are telling their stories on this medium.

Ep. 89: The rights we lost with Aakar Patel

Ep. 89: The rights we lost with Aakar Patel

In this episode, Karthik speaks to journalist and author Aakar Patel about the erosion of individual rights and freedom in India at the hands of successive governments, since the country won its group-level freedom in 1947. They talk about how citizens of India enjoy much lesser rights today than they did in 1950 when its constitution was drafted and how this is affecting India's stature in democratic indices globally. In specific, Karthik and Aakar discuss the right to religious conversion, to occupation, and also about the use of the military in the governance of regions like the North-Eastern states and Kashmir. They also talk about the NGO sector and how the systematic dismantling of it that we are witnessing today, will affect the last mile outreach in the country. The episode delves into how even on paper, different Indians have inconsistent rights depending on gender, caste, religion, or even geographic location.
