How to set yourself free from debt

How to set yourself free from debt

We are the most marketed-to society in history. Debt is one product that has been marketed so aggressively that many of us can’t imagine life without it. By contrast, there isn’t anything good in the Bible about debt. Instead we find words like “slave”, “fool” and “curse” to describe debt. How should we understand debt to use it wisely and break free of its bondage? Slavery squeezes the life out of us. God has a better plan for our lives. God’s plan leads to leaving a legacy for others now and into the future.

Laura talked about Dave Ramsay’s debt snowball plan.

She also mentioned Christians Against Poverty.

This message is part of our series ‘Legacy: the Bible’s guide to all you leave behind.’ What did you leave in your wake today? Some people leave a trail of destruction wherever they go while others leave a trail of blessing. In this 3 week series we’ll dig into the ancient wisdom of the Bible to shape the way money impacts our life today and our legacy tomorrow. This is far more than will-writing or estate-planning. This is about the every-day blessing or destruction that we allow money to have in our lives and in the lives of the people around us. Through the ancient accounting of the Bible we find hope, healing and better days ahead.

How to handle cash with care

How to handle cash with care

Coronavirus has thrown our financial situation upside down. Many of us are struggling and uncertain about what happens next. What is going to happen after JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments end?

Jesus speaks into this situation with a warning about the way money threatens to grip our hearts, and with some practical wisdom about handling cash with care. God cares about how we handle money. The financial principles we find in the Bible still work in our lives today. When we understand them and practice them they will make an incredible difference to our entire lives and the people around us. This isn’t magic – it’s God’s plan for handling money, debt, wealth and prosperity.

The budget planner Geoff mentioned is here.

And here’s some more budgeting help from Dave Ramsay (who we’ve borrowed from for this series).

    Q & A about hearing God’s voice

    Q & A about hearing God’s voice

How can I tell the different between my thoughts and God’s voice? How do I know when God is really speaking, and when I’m just hearing what I want? These are some of the questions that Tania Harris responded to in this week’s Q & A about hearing God’s voice.

Tania is a pastor, speaker, author and founder of God Conversations, a global ministry that equips people to recognise and respond to God’s voice. She has been a church planter, pastor, Bible College lecturer and it is a privilege to have her share with us.

Tania is a popular voice on radio in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and she is in the final stages of a PhD where she is researching people’s experiences of hearing God’s voice. Her message is practical, drawn from the Bible and filled with God-stories from her life.

You can watch or listen to Tania’s message from last week here.

    Beyond repair

    Beyond repair

Laura finished our series called ‘People Problems: How Jesus can recharge all of your relationships.’

The recent Coronavirus restrictions have revealed something that is always true – people bring out the best and worst in us. Weeks of isolation, video chat, social distancing or being stuck in a house with others have left many of our relationships feeling flat, damaged or broken. This is true for friendships, work colleagues, dating and marriages. What we need is a relationship recharge so that we’re able to re-connect with people after the Coronavirus restrictions ease.

Each week we will explore something from Jesus’ teaching or another part of the Bible to help us find wisdom, hope and a way forward in all of our people problems.

What do we do with relationships that seem broken beyond repair? Is there any hope for relationships like that? And what about toxic relationships? How do you know when to stay and when to leave?

When you consider popular songs about love, you’d think it was all about feelings and emotions. But to Jesus, love is all about what you do. It’s the gritty decisions to treat each other with love that recharge our relationships.
