How to Effectively Co-Parent with A High-Conflict Ex; with Bill Eddy, LCSW, Esq.

How to Effectively Co-Parent with A High-Conflict Ex; with Bill Eddy, LCSW, Esq.

Co-parenting with a high-conflict ex is not easy, but it can be done. We know that one reasonable co-parent can make a positive difference in the lives of the children who are being co-parented by one high-conflict parent, but that doesn't make dealing with it any easier.
High-conflict co-parenting can make life incredibly stressful and full of unnecessary tension, which in-turn, rubs off on the kids.
"The key is realizing we have to take a different approach. The secret to managing a high-conflict personality is managing your own anxiety," Bill Eddy says on this episode of Moms Moving On, and on this third visit to our show, Bill shares the secrets and strategies for how to effectively co-parenting with a high-conflict ex, and shares the "4 forget about its," that you definitely need to hear!
"As early as possible you want to learn how to separate dealing with your ex or ex-to-be from getting your needs met emotionally. Don't keep trying to get it from the person who can't give it to you."
Bill Eddy, LCSW, Esq. is High Conflict Institute's co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer. He pioneered the High Conflict Personality Theory (HCP) and has become an expert on managing disputes involving people with high conflict personalities. He was the Senior Family Mediator at the National Conflict Resolution Center for 15 years, a Certified Family Law Specialist lawyer representing clients in family court for 15 years, and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker therapist with twelve years’ experience. He serves on the faculty of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law in California and is a Conjoint Associate Professor with the University of Newcastle Law School in Australia. This week, Michelle Dempsey-Multack is joined by Codependency Counselor Erika Wright to educate listeners on how to recover from co-dependency. Erika turned her own codependency into her passion, and we know you will love what she has to say. Together, Michelle and Erika will cover:

Letting go of feeling the need to please everyone in order to not ruffle feathers

What NOT To Do in Divorce: with Top Attorney Seth Nelson

What NOT To Do in Divorce: with Top Attorney Seth Nelson

We often focus on what you should do during divorce and co-parenting, but this week we are going to focus on what NOT to do. Michelle Dempsey-Multack is joined by Divorce Attorney Seth Nelson, to have a candid conversation about things to avoid when going through a divorce and starting your co-parenting journey. Michelle and Seth will take a behind the scenes look at:

How to respond when your ex meets someone new

Picking and choosing your battles on physical items

Putting emotions aside when deciding what is best for your children

Making decisions based on the needs of children vs the parent

    AND MUCH MORE!

Seth Nelson is the winner of TAPMPA Magazine’s Top Divorce Attorney 2022 and Super
Lawyer’s Top Attorney 2022. Seth focuses on his client’s interests, and balances reasonable
settlement options with zealous representation. His approachable, empathic, no-nonsense
style allows his clients to clearly understand the law and how it impacts their lives. “I tell clients
what they need to know, even if it’s not what they want to hear,” Seth says. “This way my
clients understand the different potential outcomes and how we are going to get there,
    together.”
Seth has been involved in thousands of cases as a lawyer and as a Florida Supreme Court
Certified Family Law Mediator. With his professional and personal life experiences, and his
sound legal judgment, he has a keen ability to bring common sense solutions to difficult
problems. “The complexity of modern life and how it relates to complex divorce litigation,
especially in high-net-worth cases and cases dealing with children, demands a lawyer who has a
diverse set of skills,” Seth says.
Finally, Seth understands that the legal system cannot solve all issues that families deal
with in a divorce. That is why he hosts his podcast, How to Split a Toaster, which gives non-
legal practical suggestions for anyone who is contemplating, going through or has completed a
divorce. Episodes include, “Now You Are Alone” and “But What About the Dog” and “Post-
divorce Dating.” In its seventh season, it is available wherever you get your podcasts.
Seth was divorced when his child was very young and can relate to his clients’ issues. HE
confesses, “I am a self-proclaimed workaholic because divorce doesn’t conveniently happen
between 9 to 5, and I like to be there for my clients.” However, when he is not working, he
enjoys recharging his batteries by spending time with his son, being on or around the water and
playing with his two mini-dachshunds, known as “The Hots.”
    Education: University of Florida, J.D. (2001);

    University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, B.S. (1992)

Federal Circuit Court Judge for the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals
    (2001-2002)
