Welcome to the National Youth Ministry Convention podcast, where we talk about all things relating to Youth Ministry. In 2014 we had the crazy idea of gathering the best Australian youth pastors, workers, theologians and senior pastors into the same room to deal with the elephants in the room around Youth Ministry.

Brenton and I recorded this conversation two and a half months ago, which was meant to be a 15 minute conversation about keeping your faith in the middle of ministry but ended up going for almost an hour. Fuller Youth Institute have just released their epic piece of research into a book, Growing Young. The results have come in. All of our excuses are now gone. There is no link between size, money or 'cool' and having a healthy, thriving Youth Ministry.
We bring in a close friend of the podcast and one of the premier researchers into youth spirituality in Rowan Lewis, into the studio to help us analyze the research and bring out some nuggets for the Australian context.

Great conversation starter for youth workers & parents
Great conversation starters for Youth & Church Leaders. I’d love to see it shared with parents too. As a former youth leader of Yr 10-12 girls and mentor to women I’ve seen so many leaders & parents just not know how to have ‘S.E.X’ talks. Parents are out of their depth – they don’t know how to talk to their kids. Students think it’s not relevant to them – yet, 10 years later, ask why no one ever told them about ‘these things’ and youth leaders feel they need to remain politically correct. I would love to hear messages of Sexual identity, like this, taught to parents so that they feel comfortable talking to their kids, know the language and know what they actually believe themselves. Then perhaps teens might be able to sit down on the kitchen floor and have real d&m’s with those that care for them.
