Thinking Out Loud is a place to digest audibly the things we tend to think through silently. We'll look at a variety of complex issues from a variety of points of view, not necessarily to get to "right answers" but to build empathy and perspective.

Today, I'm joined by Jay Newman. Jay is the Pit Master at Shotgun Willie's in Nashville, TN as well as the owner of Newman Family BBQ. In addition to BBQ, Jay has a history in ministry and music. He's also an Eagles fan! But today we discuss the idea of Christian Anarchy. Both Jay and I share a bit about our political journeys and how we have found the language of Christian Anarchy to be a faithful attempt at political engagement with the kingdoms of this world. If after this hour you need more talk or more resources on Christian Anarchy, here are three podcast episodes and two books...
I Think I Might Be A Christian Anarchist!? with Jay Newman and Preston Sprinkle - Theology in the Raw
Christian Anarchism: Dr. Alexandre Christoyannopoulos and Preston Sprinkle - Theology in the Raw
Learning the Ethics of Bonhoeffer - Catacomb Podcast
Anarchy and Christianity by Jacques Ellul
The Anatomy of the State by Murray N. Rothbard

This is our fourth episode in the mini series, I Disagree with Dave. You can listen to the previous three here (059 - Hell) and here (060 - Same-Sex Relationships) and here (Theological Grab Bag). Today, I'm joined by Dan Ulrich, man behind @youthgroupmemes, to discuss the nature of healing. When you or someone you know is ill, is that God's will? If yes, well...why? If no and we pray for healing and it doesn't happen, why? Dan and I discuss where we see things differently as we both try to decipher what God is calling us to and how we can be most faithful to his word. We pray this challenges you and encourages you.

This is our third episode in the mini series, I Disagree with Dave. You can listen to the previous two here (059 - Hell) and here (060 - Same-Sex Relationships). Today, I'm joined by Andy Sommers to discuss our theological journeys. Over the 5ish years that Andy and I have known each other, we've both evolved and in different direction. We explore what brought us to where we are and interrogate our beliefs a bit. Andy is in the Reformed/Calvinist camp and so we take a look at some of those teachings specifically and touch on a few issues that have been hot buttons in the Reformed Twittersphere over the last year(s).

This is our second episode in a series called 'I Disagree with Dave.' Today, Alex DeMarco is up and he disagrees with Dave on the nature of same sex relationships. Alex is fully affirming and Dave is not. As two straight men having this conversation, we absolutely wanted to point you in the direction of gay Christians who have wrestled through these topics themselves. Those resources range from affirming to non-affirming as well and you can find them here:
God and the Gay Christian by Matthew Vines
Bad Theology Kills by Kevin Garcia
Same Sex Unions in Premodern Europe by John Boswell
A Time to Embrace by Williams Stacy Johnson
Changing Our Mind by David Gushee
Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry
Heavy Burdens by Bridget Eileen Rivera (and here is a link to my interview with Bridget)
Sam Alberry
Alex has previous been on two other episodes talking about Christian ethics and the inerrancy of Scripture.

Emily joins me this time to disagree with me about the nature of hell. For a better understanding of my point of view on the subject, check out episode 2.
