Soapbox Talks is an interview series that forms part of musicians Lizabett Russo and Graeme Stephen's project Ensemble Eòrpa. The project has been produced with arts organisation Deveron Projects from Jan-April 2021 and explores ways to remotely connect through music amidst the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic. Six musicians from across Europe have digitally collaborated on the production of a new album.
Deveron Projects is an arts organisation based in Huntly, a small town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It has worked with the history, context and identity of the town since 1995.

Soapbox Talks: Silke Eberhard
For our final Soapbox Talk, we are joined by German saxophonist Silke Eberhard. Silke shares the evolution of her musical career, how she discovered jazz and what she's been doing to adjust to home-based gigs. You'll also find out how she's found working remotely creating Ensemble Eòrpa's album 'Abode'. Silke joins our Project Intern Roosje de Graaff from her home in Germany.

Soapbox Talks: Marius Mihalache
For our penultimate Soapbox Talk, we hear from Romanian Cimbalom and Dulcimer player Marius Mihalache. Marius tells us about the origins of his instrument, the projects he's been working on during the Covid-19 lockdowns including composing a film score, and how he's found working remotely with other musicians, particularly on creating Ensemble Eòrpa's album 'Abode'. Lucas and Steve share their experiences of the Scottish traditional and bagpiping scene, how Lucas found recording for Ensemble Eòrpa and some history on Huntly's bothy ballads and pipe bands.
