To celebrate almost three years since Folklore: Long Pond Studio Sessions, when Taylor Swift made a bit out of William Bowery’s identity with Jack Antonoff, Madyson reviews the evidence of the pseudonym’s true identity. They talk about the strange and borderline scammy timeline of Joe Alwyn’s Album of the Year Grammy win for folklore, and possibilities of other gaylor muses being WB: Karlie Kloss, Dianna Agron, Zoë Kravitz… Thanks to the public copyright catalogue, they also explain how there seems to be at least two individuals behind the pseudonym(s) of William and Willam Bowery; Both names are listed as credits for folklore and evermore songs. Finally, they explore WB’s most recent work on Sweet Nothing, and the theory that the song is written for Paul McCartney and his wife Linda. The connections between Swift and McCartney go deep; Including Paul’s music video and song inspired by Taylor called “Who Cares”, which features a likely gaylor muse, Emma Stone. After a long two weeks filled with their first covid case, a gaylor Cosmopolitan feature, and lots of mercury retrograde nonsense, Madyson is back to answer the age-old question heard round the world: 'If Taylor Swift is gay... Why doesn't she just ~come out~?' To answer what seemed like a simple question (homophobia), your gaylor host backtracked to the 1970s and shared what they found out about the very first gay country album 'Lavender Country'. Then, they emphasize how homophobic the industry really is by unpacking Chely Wright's famous documentary about what it was like to be the first country artist to come out. In the thick of Wright's story, Madyson connected Taylor's musical, life, and career parallels to Chely's, including comparing "Picket Fences" by Wright to "High Infidelity" by Swift. They also remind everyone that Chely was on Twitter interacting with gaylors in January 2023, and she actually easter egged the Speak Now (Taylor's Version) announcement that happened on the 13th anniversary of Chely coming out... in Nashville. In this episode you’ll meet your gaylor host, Madyson (they/she), learn how they became a gaylor, what it means to be a part of this community, and why taylor swift being queer matters to them. They break down what it was like to create gaylor content on tik tok, the hate that gaylors get from homophobic swifties, and how connecting and sharing theories with gaylor friends online taught them about their own queerness. Madyson explains how Taylor Swift using historical queer flags, like hairpin drop, in her music has taught mainstream audiences about flagging; One example being how lesbian Youtuber Shannon Beveridge posted a promo for Friend of Dorothy merch explaining what a queer flag is and why we use them, using Dorothea by Taylor Swift as the song playing on the radio. They end the episode by shouting out one of their favorite gaylor creators/theorists/minds, Alice, the creator of Midnights in Wonderland (linked above)!
