    229. The Cost of EV Conversion for Commercial Fleets

When it comes to incorporating EVs into commercial diesel fleets, it is important to understand the costs and benefits—and the impact on maintenance.
    .
As one of the longest-running and largest fleet owners in North America, Ryder implements logistics and transportation solutions for a wide variety of industries. By using extensive historical data and current market prices for EVs and charging infrastructure, Ryder recently examined the potential economic impacts of implementing an all-EV commercial fleet in the United States.
    .
To learn more about Ryder’s analysis, we sat down with Arun Chickmenahalli, Director of Maintenance R&D at Ryder, to discuss how electrification impacts fleet maintenance, the price differences for EV conversion between states, and the ways in which Ryder is developing maintenance programs to service EV, AV and alternative fuel clients.

    228. Has Amelia Earhart's Aircraft Been Found?

Sonar data from a deep sea drone recently shed light on one of aviation's most enduring mysteries: the disappearance of Amelia Earhart.
    .
By pursuing the missing aircraft using the “Date Line theory,” Deep Sea Vision, a South Carolina-based marine robotics firm, searched across 5,200 square miles of the Pacific Ocean floor, more than all previous searches combined. Equipped with a modified version of the company’s flagship HUGIN 6000 commercial autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), the DSV team discovered an image which mirrors the unique dual tails and scale of Earhart’s aircraft.
    .
To learn more about this intriguing technology and what’s next when it comes to verifying this discovery, we sat down with Tony Romeo, CEO, Deep Sea Vision. Listen in as he shares his unique background, the power of his company’s AUV technology, and what’s next for the future of underwater exploration.

    227. BRIEFS: EV Batteries That Run On Sunshine - Or in the Cold

It’s no secret that installing EV charging stations can be time-consuming. But what if you could use the power of the sun? Beam Global is doing just that – not only on land, but in the water and sky as well.
    .
Beam's research and work in thermal management enables EV batteries to charge in a hot or cold environments. Using clean energy solutions like solar power, Beam deploys EV charging infrastructure in minutes not months – with no permitting, no construction, and no electrical work.
    .
Listen in as Roberto Baldwin, Sustainability Editor, SAE Sustainable Mobility Solutions, sits down with Said Al-Hallaj, Chief Battery Scientist, Beam Global, to discuss the rapidly deployed and scalable EV charging solutions, the challenges of electrification in the air and water, and the importance of thermal management.

    226. Unsupervised Learning Makes Scalable Autonomy a Reality

    226. Unsupervised Learning Makes Scalable Autonomy a Reality

Artificial intelligence that teaches itself? That’s the gist of unsupervised learning. And it offers far-reaching implications for the future autonomous driving—and much more.
    .
As a pioneer in unsupervised learning, Helm.ai employs an AI-first approach to building autonomous driving software using an in-house unsupervised learning technology called Deep Teaching which leverages insights from applied mathematics and compressive sensing.
    .
Deep Teaching enables Helm.ai to train on vast volumes of data more efficiently without the need for large scale fleets or human annotation, moving the world closer to fully autonomous self-driving systems. The company licenses their software to automakers for high-end ADAS L2+/L3 products and uses the same scalable AI approach for L2/L3 ADAS through L4.
    .
To learn more about this exciting breakthrough, we sat down with Vlad Voroninski, CEO & Co-Founder of Helm.ai, to discuss unsupervised learning, Deep Teaching, and the future of autonomous driving.
