Our guest this week used to work in corporate America and this is what she had to say about becoming a parent:
Most people want to leave work behind when they get home, but I found myself leaning into the leadership qualities from my past work life. I naturally turned to experts, built teams to support my partner and me, and recognized that I valued my time differently than every other parent I knew. And interestingly, I seemed to also be genuinely happier than the parents around me, proudly parenting in a way that put my time at the forefront so that I could show up more joyful for my family.
    Meet Christine Landis.
Hi, I'm Christine! Former CEO turned Peacock Parent.
I am passionate about empowering parents to delegate like a #boss at home, so they can take more control of their time.
By applying the skills I learned in growing and selling a multi-million dollar business to my personal household, I’ve been able to treat the home like a growing company.
Delegating low-joy tasks, outsourcing chores, and managing teams at home, ultimately buys my partner and I more quality time with our family. And time is the real luxury in life.
Christine’s 99 Tasks You Can Delegate Today is a gift to you.

    How are you?
Remember that time in the 90s when Hilary Clinton said it takes a village to raise a child? It turns out she had visited Africa and that it is a very common African proverb attributed to her, but I digress... I could sorta see it then, but the notion that we are all interconnected and rely on one another in small and big ways has been made clear especially during the pandemic.
Family Success Team is a term I came up with when we became parents. I define members of our FST as anyone who helps us be successful in any way. People who are on my FST include: school/teachers who work well with our neurodiverse kid, her OT, our therapists, our babysitters who played endless games of Thomas the Train and Duplo, all the neighbors/friends who pick up or drop off my kid when I am not able, all the housecleaners we’ve hired over the years, Carly - our professional organizer who helped me learn how to use our house spaces better, my hairstylist because she saves me time, money and product, my chief of staff Katie who does all the behind the scenes work in my business, the grandparents for taking care of themselves and having a good relationship with our kid, my walking buddies, my yoga teacher, my strength training coach, my parenting coach, my health coach, my business coaches, my physician, my friends who show up day after day, my biz besties, the public library, my Fair Play colleagues, all the authors who have helped me be a better version of myself. I could go on, but I think you get the point.
We really aren’t made to do life alone. There is simply too much to be done and we can’t be experts at everything. There is a beautiful surrender to that if you ask me.
Imagine having so much to do it is keeping you awake at night, wishing you had a personal/executive assistant, but not having the time or the energy to find someone to add to your Family Success Team. I found the person to talk to at Mom 2 in Nashville.
    Meet Ashley Chang.
Ashley is the co-founder and CEO of Sundays, an executive assistant service for working parents. Their goal is to accelerate parents in their careers while creating more time for family.
Sundays can help with family, with your home stuff and with your work stuff. Examples include: scheduling medical appointments, helping your kids get a passport, making your vacation itinerary and reservations, getting teacher appreciation gifts, canceling cable/subscriptions, finding and booking a swim teacher or math tutor or nanny. Sundays can also help you get quotes for movers, order photos, replace your house filters and replace appliance pieces.
In other words, Sundays help reduce mental load and get those nagging tasks out of your head and on to the DONE list.

(We had some technical difficulties last week, so here’s what would have happened if we didn’t.)
We are counting down the days until school's out for the summer break and also until the first day of school. Eight and 75 respectively.
Last week, I shared the Summer of Intentionality with you, and we have been implementing those plans to squeeze the most out of the season. If you’d like to create a memorable summer for your family, check out that episode.
I am so excited to introduce you to my guest this week! I met Patricia at Mom2 Summit last year in Scottsdale. We bonded quickly over having both been classroom teachers and now coaches. I was in the midst of my ADHD evaluation so I had so many questions for her.
Patricia Sung helps moms with adult ADHD work with their unique brains and get their ish together one step at a time and feel confident running their family life.
She hosts Motherhood in ADHD, a Top 5 Parenting podcast, encouraging mamas with practical strategies and relatable missteps. She’s a hobby-hopping, anxious adventurer, willing to try almost anything once. A midwesterner at heart, she reluctantly has adopted the word "y'all" and lives in Houston with her husband and two young sons.
You can grab free resources and get your crap together with other ADHD moms in Successful Mama Meetups at www.motherhoodinadhd.com.

May was a LOT. I am so happy to be heading into the summer season to make some memories, finish some projects, read a lot and spend time with my family.
Around here we call this season the Summer of Intentionality. I learned about it from my pal Rosie Molinary.
Rosie met a boy at a college party who could recite long poems from memory. She was impressed and asked him how he was able to do it. His answer is what became the SOI.
I tell more of the story on this week’s podcast along with things that are saving my life this season.

EP 225: Failure, Addiction and the Long Game with Jess Lahey

One of the most pivotal life choices I ever made was changing my career from politics to teaching. [You can read about my unconventional career path].
Before studying to be a teacher I had a very fixed mindset. I believed that people were smart or not. I believed that you were born with it or you weren’t. I believed failure was the end of the line and the worst thing that could happen.
The philosophical nature of my yoga practice coincided with the timing of my career change. I was seeking something…better. I was choking on the black and white thinking I was used to. Whispers of new ways of thinking crept into my mind while I was on my mat.
As I entered my teaching credential program I set the intention to have a beginner's mind. I didn’t have to have the answers already, I was seeking learning. I was allowing myself to show up vulnerably. I was showing my professors and my classmates I was humble enough to learn new things, make mistakes, and try something different to get different results.
This simple shift of being okay with not already knowing changed my life forever. Perfectionism had its grip on me for the first 30+ years of my life, and it felt terrible.
Teaching allowed me to be present for learning. Not the good scores and college acceptance letters to post on social media. But the real kind.
We send our kids to school to learn, but how many of us are okay with making mistakes, failing, not getting what is taught and having to figure it out?
Learning means acquiring knowledge or skill in something. That means you start out not knowing anything about it. Then, you learn about it and realize how little you know. With practice, study, and data collection, you can apply what you’ve gained to what you know, and if you stick with it, you’ll eventually become competent.
In other words, learning is a hard, ugly process.
And it absolutely rocks if you can get beyond the shame of not knowing or being terrible at stuff in the beginning.
Anyway, I got to interview Jess Lahey about her books about failure and addiction and I really tried not to fangirl too much.
